Overview: hotel description: Hotel Lavenar (St. Anton Ski Area/Pettneu) description

Due to popular demand from guests, we are delighted to welcome back once again our good friends Armand and Evelyn Windisch, and their lovely family-run hotel close to St. Anton, which embodies the traditional warmth, friendliness, atmosphere and good food for which the Austrian Tyrol is justly famous. The Lavenar Hotel offers door-step skiing and is set in a scenic location on a plateau above the village of Pettneu, a neighbouring village of St. Anton, which is only 10 minutes' ride away on the regular free ski-bus. Traditionally furnished and upgraded in recent seasons, the Lavenar boasts a wellness area to go with its comfortably furnished bedrooms - a choice of single, twin, triple and 4-bed rooms, all of which have their own private en suite facilities. Good food is served in the dining-room with its superb views towards the mountains, the bar provides a warm welcome after skiing and in the evenings, and there is a big sun-terrace at the front of the hotel.

Access to the skiing is easy. Pettneu has its own local ski area which is ideal for beginners and intermediates (local area lift pass available locally). More experienced skiers can ski down to Pettneu village and join the regular free ski-bus service, which runs every 15/20 minutes (8.00am- 6.00pm) to St. Anton's main Nasserein gondola stop, for immediate swift access onto the huge Arlberg ski area, with its 280kms of pistes. At the end of the day head 'home' on the ski-bus, leave your hired skis and boots at the depot in Pettneu and take the cable car (last trip at approx. 4.30pm) or piste buggy shuttle (last trip at approx 6pm) up the hotel for dinner. There is a twice weekly midnight shuttle service if you want to enjoy St. Anton's renowned après-ski scene, and the hotel also offers evening entertainment three times weekly.

Please note: Local area lift pass, ski hire and ski school are available in Pettneu (pay locally). Whole area Arlberg lift pass is pre-bookable.

Brimming with traditional Austrian charm but with all the conveniences of a modern resort, St Anton's vast, high altitude ski area and vibrant atmosphere make it truly world class. It's one of the major international destinations that everyone must visit at least once (and is likely to return to frequently thereafter). Two minutes from the train station and less than an hour's drive from Innsbruck airport, it's a conveniently accessible resort. The main village is traffic free and stretches for about 1km - dot...
It's often said that if you learn to ski or snowboard here, you're likely to find any other resort an utter breeze... Just don't do a Bridget Jones (her memorable descent in 'Edge of Reason' took place on one of the more challenging Arlberg runs) and make sure to take advantage of the excellent tuition on offer. Thanks to local legend Hannes Schneider, St Anton opened the first ski school in 1921. The Skischule Arlberg continues to provide excellent tuition today, so beginners are in good hands. There's a nurs...
The après ski here is absolutely legendary: the atmosphere is constantly buzzing and with a night bus running until 3am, you can really make the most of your evening. You'll find about 20 bars offering a variety of scenes, but to experience après ski at its best you can't leave until you've joined the masses and danced on the tables at world-famous Mooserwirt or The Crazy Kangaroo (Krazy Kanguruh). While it's reputation is lively (and the resort lives up to it) there are lots of options if you prefer a more so...

"Amazing - def recommend to families"

We had a really good time – really enjoyed the hotel! It’s not the sort of hotel we would have chosen for ourselves, we usually go to bigger hotels so when the snow cat wound its way up the mountain into the middle of nowhere, it was a bit of an “oh my goodness” moment! It’s really different to anything else but it was amazing! You get to toboggan down to the bus stop every morning (which my 2 boys loved) and then it’s a short hop on the bus and about 5 minutes to the main ski lifts in St Anton. There’s a little dog in the hotel who’s quite sweet and would run down with you on the toboggans in the morning and then get on the bus. I would definitely recommend it to other families and we would certainly go back. Once you’re back in the hotel, you are in the middle of nowhere unless you walk into the town (but it’s quite a hike). We didn’t really feel the need to go anywhere as they did evening entertainment like tobogganing in the pitch black which was good fun, they took us up to a pub one night and we had a good singsong in a barn! The hotel also has a nice little pool and a sauna and a steam room. The staff were friendly and very nice and the food was all good, hearty stuff. They did a special night with a big ham cooked in bread (a local delicacy) which was brilliant. We were in a quad room, which was very spacious and had a dividing door to separate the two rooms, we had to share a bathroom between the four of us though, which wouldn’t be a problem for a family with younger children but it would have been better for us to have 2 double rooms. We stayed in a nice small group, there was another family staying there with a son who was a similar age to my boys which was perfect. I would definitely recommend it to families – it’s probably not ideal for families with small kids, but I’d say for children anything from 7-8 to teens it’s really very good. Older teens might find it a bit boring as they would have to get the bus into St Anton since Pettneu is very quiet. It’s a nice little village with a lovely cake shop at the bottom by the bus stop and a little supermarket, and it had everything we needed.
