Principles of Accessibility on SNO.co.uk

Below are set out the elements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines as applied to this website.

Non-Text Content:

All non-text content that is presented on the website should have a text alternative that serves the equivalent purpose, unless this alternative would in some way devalue the content (such as with a Captcha) or if the content serves a purely decorative or layout function.

Alternative Means of Access to Products and Information:

Where product information is presented for online booking, there will always be an easily accessible telephone number to provide a non-visual alternative method of booking/buying.

Use of Colour:

Colour is not used as the only visual means of conveying information, indicating and action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element.

Audio Control:

If any audio on a web page plays automatically for more than 3 seconds, either a mechanism is available to pause or stop the audio, or to control the volume level.

Contrast:

The visual presentation of text and images of text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 except for (i) large text (which will have a contrast ratio of 3:1) or (ii) incidental text or images that are either inactive or purely for decoration or (iii) logotypes.

Link Purpose:

The purpose of each link can eb determined from the link text alone or from the link text together with its programmatically determined link context.

Headings and Labels:

Headings and labels describe topic or purpose.

Section headings are used to organise content.

Reading Level:

Where text requires reading ability more advanced than the lower secondary education level, supplemental content, or a version that does not require more advanced reading ability, is available.

Pronunciation:

A mechanism is available for identifying specific pronunciation of words, particularly where non-native place names or foreign language words are used.

Consistent Navigation:

Navigational mechanisms that are repeated on multiple web pages occur in the same relative order or logical usage each time they are repeated.
