New Years is all about glamour and excitement, so a ski holiday to St. Moritz certainly fits the bill. For a fabulous night out try the Diamond Club in St. Moritz Dorf. Those who can afford entry should definitely spend the evening at Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, where there’s an unusual tradition: if you can find a man wearing a cape and holding a little pig you must touch the pig, and you will apparently be granted good luck and money for the coming year. The pig is auctioned off at the end of the night if you fancy a unique souvenir... If cosy pubs are more your thing then visit Bobby’s, or try Secondo’s bar and grill for a relaxed atmosphere.

New Years is peak skiing time, and if the snow history is anything to go by, late December / January is an ideal time to visit the area. You’d expect the resort to be crowded since this is such a popular time to visit, but the ski area is huge, and if you’re willing to travel a little you can end up skiing on some very quiet pistes. We reckon that the resort is perfect for intermediates, but there are plenty of runs to suit all abilities. Those who enjoy a challenge mustn’t miss the Olympia black run, which has featured in previous Winter Olympics.

With its rich sporting history, it comes as no surprise that the resort has a lot more to offer than just skiing. Visitors can enjoy hundreds of kilometres of walking paths, and great evening entertainment from the local Scala cinema to the Ludains ice rink.
