The great thing about New Year here is that you’re staying in a living and breathing town, so the celebrations are bound to be good. Because the ski area isn’t on your doorstep, holidays for this peak week might be a little cheaper and transport links to the spectacular Jungfrau area are bound to inspire a few snow-themed New Year’s resolutions...

New Year Interlaken-style is traditionally a 3 day party with concerts, dinners, fireworks and processions.

You’ll probably experience a unique mix of familiar festivities, with traditional Swiss touches like alpenhorns and cowbell bands sprinkled on top. In past years, the party has carried on with a ‘Touch the Mountains’ event on the 1^st January with a firework display, open-air concert and traditional bell ringers. If that wasn’t enough, the 2^nd traditionally welcomes the ‘Potschete procession’, which sees masked figures run through the streets, spreading fake fear with everyone gathering to celebrate in the pubs and clubs.
