Skiing the beautiful Jungfrau region is definitely what we would like to be doing this Easter! Grindelwald is your ideal base for exploring all the region has to offer – it’s very accessible with excellent transport links (by road and rail), and it’s the liveliest town in the area with lots of good restaurants, bars and other amenities. Families will enjoy the many toboggan runs – those up for a challenge can race down the longest sledge run in the world ‘Big Pintenfritz’. The ski facilities for little ones are great too: on Bodmi there is the Snowli Kinderclub and the local ski school, as well a fun children’s park with a mini igloo village.

The ski conditions are normally good up until the end of April, but if it’s a bad snow year don’t fret, the resort has recently upgraded its snow making facilities and now around 50% of the slopes can be supplemented with artificial snow. There is also a wide choice of north-facing slopes finishing in town, which make a good choice for sunny days as the snow tends to stay in condition for longer.

Another great bonus to Grindelwald is that alongside the large Männlichen and Kleine Scheidegg ski areas, the town also has direct access to its own great ski area, First. Often visitors come simply for the stunning views of the Lauterbrunnen valley and its many iconic mountains, which are best appreciated from the top of the Jungfrau, a UNESCO World Heritage site that can be reached via the cog-railway. As one of the oldest resorts in the Alps, the town has a fascinating history – many of the attempts on the north face of the Eiger began here (you can learn all about it at the Grindelwald Museum).
