4 reviews of Jardins de la Balme Apartments in Val d'Isere, France.

To be honest if you want a really cheap holiday to Val d’Isere, they’re not that bad. They’re probably the cheapest place you can stay in the resort, but if you’re willing to pay a bit more you can find somewhere much nicer. Had a good week but more because of the company rather than the actual apartments...
Our apartment was fairly small, probably the size of a big caravan and with a similar set up too. Everyone was pretty much staying in the same room, there was a set of bunk beds and 2 sofas that you just took the cushions off and slept on. As 3 mates we were fairly happy to get up early and get out on the slopes so didn’t spend much time in the apartment, but I wouldn’t recommend it to couples and I probably wouldn’t do it again.
We cooked for maybe 2 nights, the kitchen was basic but we managed a spag bol without any trouble. We only had a hob and thought it was a bit odd that there was a massive dishwasher where they could have easily been an oven... Val d’Isere is quite good for takeaway options that aren’t that expensive, so we could get good pizzas relatively cheap if we didn’t want to cook.
It was probably a ten minute walk to get to the lifts which wasn’t too far (and it was pretty flat). Getting to most of the restaurants and bars was a fairly similar distance although there’s quite a good bar just up the road.

This would be great for people looking to do it on the cheap but it’s not somewhere I’d be looking to book again.
These apartments are very basic and are quite a long walk to the lifts (5-10 mins in boots and carrying skis).
There were 4 of us in 1 apartment and it was quite cramped, some people had to sleep in the living area and there was nowhere to chill out downstairs.
We were a group of four 30 something lads but I wouldn’t be taking my family here, the whole area is geared for groups of lads or groups of girls, the majority of people I saw here were of a uni student age.

We had a great holiday for the price we paid. The apartments are in a really great location for the cost (short walk to the lifts and where we had our lessons). The three of us fit fine with two adults and a six year old, but I felt the apartment was too small for 4 adults, so worth mentioning that in this review. The hosts/resort reps were terrific and looked after us so well in the freak snowstorm, when the coach broke down (don't let them turn off the engine!). While the self catering apartments are nothing particularly special, if you keep in mind the incredibly cheap price they let you ski at, the holiday is an absolute bargain!

The apartment was absolutely fine, the cooking area was basic but fine for what we needed for the week, it had a hob and microwave-oven thing, which were a bit old but did what they needed to! One room had 2 beds and one of us slept on a pull out sofa. The apartment was just off the main street where all the bars and restaurants are and about a 5 minute walk to the Olympic lift which takes you to the main area, where you can ski to Tignes. There’s also a Spar about 3 minutes’ walk away.
