I’d go back with no hesitation

We swapped our room for a room with a balcony which is definitely worth doing, ours was facing the ski slopes which was nice. We had a ground floor one but the 1st and 2nd floors would probably be even better.
The room itself was quite standard as you find in France, small and old fashioned in many ways.
The hotel is family run by a mother and son and the food they did was fantastic. You didn’t have a massive choice but it was usually 2 meat dishes and a fish dish. Breakfast was fine and depending on what time you leave on the last day, they give you a breakfast bag to take with you.
The distance to the slopes is good, we left our stuff in a local hire shop and just walked down each morning – it cost me 15-20€ to leave my stuff there for the week and my partner hired her equipment so it was free. The lockers are near one of the main chairs so it was all very convenient.
The hotel has a small bar and there is a pool, but it’s too cold to use and the area is quite worn out.

Can’t fault it, unbelievable food

I don’t stay anywhere else now when I go to Serre Chevalier, in the last two years I’ve stayed there three times.
The food is fantastic, with really interesting French dishes - restaurant is very traditional with oak beams etc. I’ve stayed here with a friend but also with my 14 year old son who’d try things he’d never try at home and has always enjoyed whatever was on the menu.
The only thing I would say is to make sure you’re in a south facing room looking over the main slopes. You do have to pay a premium but you get a much larger room and have a balcony, so it’s definitely worth pushing the boat out a little bit more. The rooms are modern and have always been well cleaned while we were out skiing, I don’t have a bad thing to say about them.
It’s not necessarily a young family hotel and is more for teenagers plus, i.e. if you have a family with teenage children it’s perfect.
The facilities include a swimming pool (which is always on) and a sauna (although I’ve never used it).
It’s also a short walk to the slopes (I’d say probably 10 minutes tops) and all the ski hire shops offer the facility to store your equipment overnight which makes things much easier.
