Grand Aigle review

Reviewed 31 May 2016

Just to say thank you for booking our holiday and dealing with all the various requests!! We had a great time, in spite of the lack of snow (the artificial snowmaking was suprisingly extensive) and did some other things instead of skiing on a couple of the days. Overall the hotel was very comfortable and the staff extremely helpful (although it is definitely a bit dated - almost eccentric actually and has character because of that). One thing I would say, however, is that we did end up paying an extra 42 Euros each per day (around £400) for an upgrade for my mother and law and my husband and I in order to have the rooms with views at the front with balcony (which I asked for originally). We were put into rooms at the back which were tiny, dark and depressing (minisucule bathrooms). It was quite an additional expense to be hit with (but definitely worth it). It would have been helpful to have known this at the time we booked.

Excellent hotel for solo travellers

Reviewed 1 Jul 2014

The hotel was very nice. It ticked all the boxes and for the price I paid it was superb – it was more than I expected. The food was excellent. Proper good quality food. It was healthy and the menu changed every day. It was buffet style with the option of 2 or 3 mains, but you could mix and match as you pleased. There was also a cold veg section as well as fruit, bread and soup (which changed every day). The service was good too, the staff had good English skills. The rooms weren’t massively luxurious but then it was a ski holiday so I didn’t spend a lot of time in there. I had a decent shower, and a TV with some English channels.
The lounge/bar and dining area were very nice and there were big windows looking out onto the piste, so you could watch the children lining up for ski school as you ate breakfast. I went as a solo traveller and it’s a good hotel for meeting people. I made some friends at the hotel bar and everyone ate dinner at big tables together so by the end of the week we all knew each other.
The hotel is literally across the road from the main gondola. There are some bars and shops in the village but not much, if you take the bus it’s a 5 minute journey to the next town where there is a supermarket, etc.

Overall a nice hotel

Reviewed 16 May 2014

The hotel was fine, the staff were really helpful and the food was very good. One side of the hotel has been renovated recently and the other is a bit older - my room wasn’t amazing but it was quite fine, it had a TV and I always had a good night’s sleep. The hotel has a nice lounge area with an open fire, a bar and a TV showing sport. There was also WiFi access. You literally walk across the road and you’re at the lift which is very convenient. There are also shops etc just along the road and up a short access road so you really are in the centre of things.
