A great last minute booking

Reviewed 8 May 2015

We had a very good week, the chalet worked out pretty well on the basis that it was a last minute booking because the majority of the other people staying there had booked last minute too. The only issue didn’t really affect us, but more so our two hosts (a boy and a girl): one of the oven doors broke one evening so they couldn’t use it, then the dishwasher packed up, we felt quite sorry for them. Otherwise it was great, no complaints – the food was pretty good.
To get to the slopes you could walk across the road or take the ski bus (the stop was about 60 yards up the road) which took you too the 3 main ski areas.

Great week!

Reviewed 15 Apr 2015

We had a great week at the Chalet Pyrene in Villeneuve.
However it looks like the chalet operator have used something like photoshop to hide what’s in front of the chalet in their 2015/16 brochure - which turned out to be a garage and a main road (in the photo there’s a strange shape of what looks like snow, that’s actually a petrol station!). The only problem was that we had to contend with quite a lot of noise from the main road and petrol station.
Ignoring the petrol station, the view from the chalet is wonderful. The chalet’s located on a slope and it took us a good ten to fifteen minute walk to get to the Frejus chair lift. There aren’t any lockers at the bottom of the ski lifts so we had to walk in our ski boots, carrying skis and poles and for this reason I wouldn’t recommend staying in the Pyrene with young children.
As for the chalet itself, we had plenty of hot water and there was a good amount of space for us all to relax in. Some of the bedrooms were a bit small but you don’t spend much time in them anyway. Two of the bedrooms had a mezzanine floor which is brilliant for older children (9-11ish) but possibly not for younger ones because of the angle of the stairs…
As it was, Serre Chevalier is a fabulous resort, we had fabulous weather and the hosts and other guests in the chalet were lovely – had some of these factors been different I probably would have been more cheesed off with the noise at night.
We’d probably stay here again if the price was right.
