Actual chalet nice, let down by food

Reviewed 10 Jun 2016

It was ok, though we were disappointed that they were lacking in bread. You expect bread on the table as you would with every meal but they seemed to be having a shortage and I’m not sure why! I wouldn’t say that the afternoon cake was quite what I’m used to either. The actual space is big enough and worked very nicely. The room and bathroom were fine. We had a flickering light but they got someone in and sorted it out pretty quickly. In terms of access to the village the location was good; it’s all quite close knit there. In terms of access to and from the slopes I thought it was going to be a bit closer to the piste and that I was going to be able to ski back, but because of the road you couldn’t. It’s a little walk to the lift.

March 2016 holiday

Reviewed 10 Jun 2016

Really good! We had a big room on the ground floor and the bathroom was nice. The complex the chalet in is a nice place and we’d definitely go back there. It was really easy to get around from where the complex is located. The food was ok, though the chalet girl wasn’t as enthusiastic as people we’ve had in the past, she looked like she wanted to go home. The social areas were nice, there were only 8-10 people in the chalet and we all had plenty of room. We got the Eurostar and the transfer was really good.

New Year's week @ Chalet Marcel

Reviewed 2 Jun 2016

The chalet’s lovely, though it was a bit weird having to walk through the kitchen to get to the main lounge area. We went into some other places (we had friends staying a couple of doors down) and this one is definitely a good quality place.
We were in tiny bedrooms that had nowhere to unpack our suitcases which was frustrating, especially when you have bulky stuff when skiing. They had no hanging space or anything. The rest of the chalet was fine in terms of space. The lounge and dining areas were just one big room.
Food was a little disappointing, the poor girl was on her first season and first week and she was finding it tough. Sometimes breakfasts had nothing to eat because the croissants were burned and there was no fresh fruit (they said there was none in the resort…). When you’re in a chalet you don’t have a lot of choice, so if the food is poor that’s all you get. One girl was a vegetarian and the food they served her was appalling.

Good standard chalet

Reviewed 28 Apr 2015

The whole holiday went pretty well and the chalet was good overall. Our host was quite good and we were impressed with the variety of food considering he was only about 18. On one or two evenings it was a bit cold by the time he served it but that’s a minor niggle, just one of the problems of catering for a big group.
When a chalet’s described as ‘virtually ski in, ski out’, it always depends what you mean by ‘virtually’. From the Marcel it was about 200/300 yards to the little button lifts for the nearest access. Coming back you had to ski down quite an awkward little slope but it wasn’t much further to walk.
The only issue was access, which I’d read about before we arrived. You have to go up quite a tight, winding staircase, which was ok most of the time but was difficult with luggage etc. After walking up the stairs you came through a kitchen area before reaching the lounge – it was manageable but a little awkward. The chalet is part of a large block so I imagine other chalets in the same block have a similar layout. This is only a minor point and overall the chalet had a good standard.

A great week away

Reviewed 17 Apr 2015

Chalet Marcel was good, it had a nice layout and was warm and clean as well as pretty close to the slopes. The food was lovely – it was served late most nights because the guy was by himself and it was his first week (we felt bad for him really as he was out of his depth) but apart from the timing it was very good. The bedrooms were a great size and we liked the lounge area with the log fire.

Excellent host, enjoyed holiday, worried about fire escape

Reviewed 12 Mar 2014

We enjoyed the holiday; the chalet host was excellent, bang on, very helpful and helped us beyond what we expected.
I was a bit concerned about the layout of the chalet in terms of getting out easily if there was an emergency as the main stair was very tight and twisty, and to get to it you have to walk through the kitchen – because I was here with my kids it played on my mind a bit and I don’t think we would stay there again.
The experience of the chalet apart from this was great though!
