Worth renting a locker near the slopes

Reviewed 17 May 2016

I’ve been going to Courchevel for years so knew whereabouts the chalet was – 1650 is very accessible and easy to navigate. The chalet is in a complex on a steep hill that involves walking up a lot of steps, however if you walk out the back of the chalet and go slightly downhill for 100 yards there’s a split level escalator. The chalet ski locker isn’t adjacent to the property so we rented one in the lift station at the top of the escalator to save having to cart skis up and down. The locker cost about 40 Euros for the week and was well worth it.
The chalet girl was brilliant and did a pretty good job, she was very helpful from start to finish.
We had a lovely room.
The food was a good standard.

Chalet absolutely fine, service not good this time

Reviewed 13 Apr 2016

We stayed in the Chanrossa last Easter and really enjoyed it. This time we stayed over New Year with our sons, their partners / wives and the grandkids, as the chalet seemed ideal – there were 2 other young boys staying there, the rest of the chalet was just us! It was nice knowing what to expect having been there before.
The chalet itself is lovely and warm and comfy, we were able to ski into 1650 or (as we’re quite confident skiers) take the bus into 1850. All things considered, Courchevel is expensive and the holiday was good value. The location was good with children, and the chalet itself suitable for a baby being reasonably spaced. The social areas were homely rather than huge and very sociable, with everyone joining together every night. The beds were warm and comfortable. However two of the bedrooms shared a bathroom, and one night my son woke up with other people in the room! It seemed the young blokes staying with us had brought back some girls who had just wandered into the wrong room.
Unfortunately, the service wasn’t good at all. We were left 2 days to get our own breakfast. There were a couple of disasters with the food, for example the starter wasn’t cooked one day. The girl did her best but the food just wasn’t good.
Breakfast was a struggle anyway as our son’s partner was enrolled in ski classes so didn’t have time to wait before she had to leave. As we had to make our own breakfasts on a couple of mornings, we noticed some hygiene issues we wouldn’t otherwise had noticed – big bowls of cereal where the spoon was stuffed back in after being used, then cling film put over the top. Tonnes of open food not stored in the fridge. Fruit juices just topped up on top of unused juice on the breakfast table. Small things but the kind of things that put you off when you wonder what they do with other food. I would have given our previous stay here a 5/5, however this year because of the service I would rate it lower - so to compromise 4/5.
