This is a great time to ski in the Portes du Soleil area, as the festive magic tends to stick around until January 1st. If it’s a home cooked roast turkey Christmas you’re after, head out after the big day to celebrate the New Year in style.
The snow tends to be good around New Year, although it’s early in the season, and some resorts like Les Gets and Morzine are lower in altitude, and the surrounding grassy slopes, normally used for farming, require less snow to be skiable. Due to the fantastic links between lower and higher resorts and excellent snowmaking facilities, there will be snow to be found somewhere across 650km worth of pistes!
If it’s a lively New Year you’re after, head to Morzine for fireworks displays and plenty of bars and restaurants. Les Gets also has a fireworks display, with lots of New Year’s Day fun to keep the children entertained, and Avoriaz offers lots of extras like husky riding and tobogganing, to make any New Year holiday unforgettable.
