France staggers its school holidays over 3 weeks, giving everyone the chance to ski, so it is useful to know that the whole of France won’t flood to the area all at once. The resort is popular with the French as well as the English, and is thus predictably busy around half term, so being super organised and booking early is a good idea.
February is known to see some fantastic snowfall over the Portes du Soleil. Higher resorts like Avoriaz and Morzine will really benefit from this heavy snowfall, providing powder hungry adrenaline addicts with some fantastic off-piste opportunities, whilst lower resorts like Les Gets offer less confident skiers some protection from adverse weather conditions with long tree-lined pistes.
Famille Plus resorts Les Gets and Morzine will be the obvious family choice at this time of the season, when the snow is best, with designated children’s areas, special entertainment and a host of ski-schools with experienced instructors to help children gain confidence on the slopes. Avoriaz is also well worth mentioning for its unique beginners only lift pass, and learner snowboarding area – it was voted best family resort by the World Snow Awards and it’s not hard to see why!
