If you want snow sure Easter skiing all day long, you might prefer Tignes or Val Thorens but if you love doing other things besides skiing and don’t want to contend with the masses in the big spring skiing resorts, Megeve can be a top choice.

The north facing slopes on Cote 2000 and the side of Mont d’Arbois towards St Gervais and St Nicolas should have the best-preserved snow at this time of year. If the local slopes are struggling, get up early and head over to Les Contamines for the first lift – this area has higher slopes (up to 2500m) and is known for having better snow reliability. See if the Easter Egg Cup is taking place this year if you’re in Megeve with young ski fanatics – the giant slalom for ages 8-13 is good fun and winning the Maurice Milloz Trophy will be a super claim back in the playground!

The good thing about this being an original mountain town is that there’s plenty to do in the afternoons if you don’t end up skiing all day. Alpes Montgolfière do hot air balloon trips for something really special but it’s always nice to just explore the town, which has some terrific shops and cafes. The Palais des Sports has a pool, sauna, ice rink and gym but who wants to be inside when it’s all spring sunshine in the mountains – get the Rochebrune cable car to the Super Megève restaurant which has a huge panoramic sun terrace with an outdoor grill.
