Since it’s so far north, Ylläs is a great place to go for an Easter skiing break as the snow stays around much later in the season, often enjoying better ski conditions than other European resorts at much higher altitude. The cold temperatures mean that the snow does not melt, so ice or slush tends not to be a problem. The other bonus is that while the UK is hovering between winter and spring, you can escape here for a crisp, snow covered Narnia – the snow cover usually keeps going until the beginning of May.
While the earlier winter months have reduced daylight hours, days start to become longer than nights towards the end of the season, giving you plenty of time to make the most of your lift pass and all the great activities on offer away from the slopes.
Ylläs is ideal for families looking to avoid holiday crowds as the lifts are rarely troubled by queues and very often you’ll find you have the perfectly groomed slopes all to yourself, which makes learning to ski here totally stress-free. For fun activities in the sun, take a reindeer, husky or snowmobile ride out into the Lapland wilderness or give winter windsurfing a go – use a windsurfing sail to propel yourself on skis across the snow and frozen lakes and feel like you’re floating on air!
