With recent years seeing plenty of December snow, Christmas in Kimberley is set to be wonderfully white and full of mountain fun.
Not letting the fact that it’s a small ski village get in the way of its festive program, recent years have seen events in Kimberley to rival those in Lapland. Nippers go nuts for tracking down lost elves, stocking hunts, skiing with Santa, and even breakfast with the man of the hour at the Trickle Creek Lodge. As darkness falls on the 24th, carollers traditionally fill the Plaza inviting skiers to join them, and often take up a second leg at the Stemwinder with “mountain-size” Monte Cristo coffees (featuring a generous glug of Kahlua & Grand Marnier).
On the big day, half the resort migrates to Montana’s –for hearty festive dinners in view of the Rocky Mountain skyline.
Boxing Day traditionally sees the night skiing open for the season, where sometimes several hundred guests gather to soar along the Nordic Cross Country Trails, the longest lit run in North America. You can expect the atmosphere to be buzzing – such a better way to spend the bank holiday than scarfing down cold turkey sandwiches…
