The pedestrianised town centre comes alive during the build-up to New Year’s Eve in Zell, and the streets are often packed by the time you get to the midnight countdown. Many of our hotels put on their own events - gala dinners followed by dancing are the norm. The ever popular Schnapps Hans Alm-Bar is usually full all day, so if you’re planning on spending some time there it’s well worth arriving early to nab a table. Crazy Daisy’s bar is another popular hangout at this time of year, whether you fancy dancing the night away in the aptly named ‘Crazy Bar’ or going low key over a beer with the locals. There’s always the optiomn to chance your hand at the popular ‘nailgame’ (a local pastime where you take turns trying to drive a nail into a log with the wrong end of a hammer - the loser buys the next round!). If you fancy something more sophisticated, see if they’re hosting the Philharmonie Salzburg concert again this year where you can welcome in the year with spectacular classical music.

With tiny transfer times in relation to many resorts, Zell is a great location if you want to spend Christmas at home and jet off somewhere more exotic for New Year’s Eve – without spending hours and hours travelling. Flying into Salzburg followed by a transfer into resort is possibly the most low effort route to the Alps and lets you save all your energy for the slopes. Follow this up by booking a half board hotel for the week and you’ve taken care of everything before you’ve even left the comfort of your sofa!

For a more adventurous route to the resort, consider a self-drive holiday. Passing through France, Germany and Austria, you’ll encounter some fantastic scenery and the excitement will have built up to a crescendo by the time you arrive.
