Espace Killy ski area Fantastic après ski High altitude skiing

Tignes is somewhere you can ski longer, higher and further than most other resorts in the Alps. Owing its snow-reliability to the Grande Motte glacier, the local ski area is joined with Val d’Isere’s to form the mammoth Espace Killy - intermediates will have a whale of a time here. Choose between 5 different villages, whether your priority is convenience, cosiness or cheap accommodation. Tignes also has one of the most famous New Year parties in the Alps.

Tignes ski resort (pronounce it 'Teens') is one half of the stunning Espace Killy, one of the biggest linked ski areas in France. Because of its high-altitude terrain and access to the Grande Motte glacier, the resort is open both earlier and later in the season than many others and often the lifts are running for short periods of summer skiing. Predominantly purpose built, the resort itself is divided into 5 villages, each different in its own way but all well linked by lifts and bus services. The main area...
With varied pistes at a high altitude, the ski area has impressive powdered terrain for skiers and boarders alike. Beginners can practice on the nursery slopes at Le Lac and Le Lavachet, where you'll find gentle, quiet runs that are accessible via free beginners' lifts. Le Bollin at Val Claret is another conveniently situated green and Grattalu is a lovely wide blue for those wanting to build confidence. Tignes is incredible if you ski at an intermediate level, with miles of powdery blue and red runs includi...
While it's said that those who appreciate Tignes do so for the serious skiing over the après ski, this doesn't do justice to the fact that Tignes' 60+ bars/pubs and 4 night clubs provide some of the best nightlife in the Alps. All villages have their fair share of places to eat and drink, and with a shuttle bus service running 24 hours, you can enjoy your evening without worrying about the journey back. Jam bar is small but with a great atmosphere and Loop bar pretty much offers it all: with live sport, world c...

"Highly recommended"

This is a really nice hotel. I would definitely recommend staying here. The holiday was quite expensive but it was well worth it for the luxury. The food was lovely – both breakfasts and suppers. There were 2 restaurants: the food in the main restaurant was fairly multinational, with 5 course dinners (we usually skipped the soup course as there was so much food!) and an amazing cheese board every evening. The other was a traditional restaurant which did meals like fondues and raclette which you wouldn’t want every night but were nice to have one evening - it was only open on a few days anyway. All of the restaurant staff were great – and all the hotel staff including those at the reception were very helpful. The bar area was great. You’re in a great location as you can ski in and out (you didn’t have to be a particularly good skier to do either). We had lovely fluffy towelling bath robes in our room which was nice. We were a group of three adults in one room, it was fine for the 2 of us who had the main area, but the third person had the bunk bed area which was a little dark and pokey (it would be alright for a family with younger children). The bathroom was nice although it could have done with a shelf for toiletries and a hook for the shower head so you didn’t have to hold it. The sauna and pool were nice and we could also use the gym in the hotel round the corner (I think the hotels are owned by the same people). Only half of the equipment was working but it was fine for what I needed.
