Overview: hotel description: Tauern Spa Kaprun description

There are a number of factors that can set a great ski hotel apart from the rest of the crowd - with the Tauern Spa Kaprun, it is definitely down to the modern design, fantastic food, superior service and - as the name might suggest - the incredible spa facilities. And with an efficient ski bus system operating in and around Kaprun you'll have no difficulty getting up to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier or over to Zell am See's Schmittenhohe.

On the outskirts of Kaprun, the Tauern Spa was built back in 2011 - and has already established itself as Kaprun's number one spa destination. Staying at the hotel you have full access to the full 20,000m² of wellness facilities free of charge, including the popular public pools, children's spa and the hotel guest only Panorama Spa. Here's just a taste of what you can indulge in while staying here: multiple indoor and outdoor pools - some with water slides or beautiful views over to the mountains, 13 different saunas and steam rooms including separate textile (bathing costume) section, whirlpools, kniepp baths and mood showers. There's also daily child supervision available from midday until 7pm for kids from 3 to 12 years, so that you can get a bit of time off when travelling with the kids too.

OK, so you've got the picture that the spa facilities are pretty fab, so now we'll tell you about the rest of the hotel. Food is highly regarded at the hotel. There's an extensive buffet offering in the mornings where you can choose from a wide selection of continental style meats and cheeses, cereals and fruit - alongside that there's a great range of hot dishes to really set you up for a day on the nearby mountains. Evening meals are an excellent mix of modern Austrian cuisine fused with international dishes made with high quality ingredients and presented beautifully.

Decor-wise the hotel is very contemporary, which is unsurprising given the recent creation, but in true Austrian style there are plenty of artistic nods to Alpine quirks - including natural wood finishings and touches of chintz. The visually open-plan rooms are very modern and spacious, with clean lines and top-quality furnishings, plenty of storage space and a balcony where you can enjoy the sunset.

And if all that isn't quite enough, book before 30th October 2014 and you'll get €75 hotel credit, per adult 18 years or older, for use on a wide range of food and drink at the Tauern Spa.

Located in Salzburg, Kaprun is perhaps best known for being the home of the magnificent Kitzsteinhorn glacier and was the first Austrian resort to partake in glacier skiing way back in the 60’s. As with many other Austrian resorts, organic growth over time has meant much of the town’s architecture still presents a quaint throwback to days gone by - those wishing for the fairy-tale holiday setting may very well find their wishes come true in the shadow of the regal 12th century Castle, or amongst the delight...
Kaprun’s pistes are split fairly evenly in terms of ability level, with the majority being classed as suitable for intermediate skiers. Don’t let this scare you off or lull you into a false sense of security though, as newbies and adrenaline junkies are fantastically catered for too. Of particular appeal to families and those with limited experience is Maiskogel- known as ‘The Family Mountain’. Accessible by the Maiskogelbahn gondola, the area is accessed separately from the larger Kitzsteinhorn area of t...
Despite the relatively modest size of the resort, there are still almost 50 different bars and restaurants to choose between. The evening’s festivities can kick off before you’ve even left the slopes; the Häuslalm’s famous terrace bar is the perfect location to start your après and indulge in some traditional Austrian fare whilst looking down onto the village below. Nestled right at the base of the slopes, Zur Lederhos´n is the first stop for many fresh off the lifts. Boasting a heated terrace with live...
