Soldeu and El Tarter are the more reserved neighbours of lively Pas de La Casa, and share the same Grandvalira ski area with the best skiing in the Pyrenees. Over 200km of slopes, three immaculately maintained snowparks, and enough mountain restaurants to keep even gastro-skiers occupied. Down at resort level great bars and restaurants let you take advantage of Andorra’s famous sunny afternoons and, if you’re looking for a trip to avoid the crowds and prices of the Alps, a ski holiday in Soldeu or El Tarter is hard to beat.

Together with Pas de la Casa, Soldeu and El Tarter make up the Grandvalira which is the largest, highest and most popular ski area in Andorra. Soldeu is the larger and livelier of the two villages, with El Tarter retaining a more traditional feel. Although just around the corner from Pas de la Casa, there is a much more relaxed and family friendly vibe in Soldeu and El Tarter, and they have successfully distanced the villages from the cheap and cheerful heavy partying reputation that Andorra built up in the nine...
The Grandvalira ski area is the largest in the Pyrenees, and recent expansions and infrastructural improvements have enhanced it sufficiently so that it is rightly considered a viable alternative to skiing in the Alps, especially compared to the smaller resorts. With over 200km of piste, three snow parks, a boarder cross course and designated freeriding areas there’s fun to be had regardless of how you like to spend your day on the mountains. 60% of the ski area is covered by artificial snowmaking facilities, s...
Whilst the nightlife in this neck of the woods is overshadowed by nearby Pas de La Casa, there’s still enough variety for a one week ski holiday. And if this doesn’t prove to be the case, then Pas is just a short bus ride away… With a good range of tapas and assorted pub grub, as well as the usual suspects drinks wise, the Villager is the first port of call after big a day on the mountain. Fat Albert’s (Fatty’s to the locals) serves a range of local specialities and European staples. The nightclub upst...

"All fine apart from food"

Staff at the hotel were lovely, and the rooms weren’t too bad. The location was fine for getting to the slopes and into town. Everything was fine apart from the food... The meals were terrible – breakfasts were all cold, and there was no variety with the same dishes served every day. In the end we ate out, I got talking to the reps who recommended some restaurants. We had to book a couple of times but managed to find places to eat quite easily.

The food was outstanding. Everything on the ground floor and the service was fine, but our room wasn’t. The TV didn’t work, and they said it was being in the mountains… However we’ve skied a lot so didn’t accept that! In the end they gave us a bottle of prosecco and installed a working TV. The only view we had was a building site across the road but we weren’t bothered as we didn’t spend much of the day in the room anyway. The location was great for getting around the resort. Everywhere we’ve stayed with a swimming pool has included the use of the pool in the overall price, but this was the first time they’ve charged us – it was 37 euros to use the pool for 3 hours! It closed at 8, and by time you’re off the slopes you don’t really have time to make the most of it. Possibly because it was half term and they didn’t want loads of kids there, but actually there weren’t many kids in the hotel anyway. No one ever seemed to be using the pool or spa whenever we checked and everyone was saying that the prices were too high. It wasn’t right to charge people when they weren’t expecting it, and for this reason we would probably pick a different hotel next time.
