The term ‘small and friendly’ was made for guesthouses like the Pension Birkenhof, with it's homely atmosphere provided by the Moigg family. It’s a little away from Mayrhofen’s busy centre and the Penken gondola – about a 10-minute walk - so you’re never too far away for skiing and nights out, but far enough that you can escape for a bit of peace and quiet. Also, the ski bus stop and train station are just a few minutes by foot for when you want to explore more of the Ziller Valley.
Don’t expect too many mod-cons - the rooms at the Birkenhof are simply furnished, although you’ll have a comfy bed for the night, an ensuite bathroom and a balcony. You’ll also get a filling continental buffet for breakfast. The cosy lounge area has a wood-burning fireplace for warming your toes after a day out on the mountain. Plus, there's free WiFi for staying in touch with friends back home - although if you're planning on streaming movies there may be a charge.
· free WiFi for checking emails and social media (extra charge will apply for downloading films or large amounts of data)
All rooms have a hairdryer, satellite TV and safe.
Twin room - sleeps 2: Austrian twin beds, private shower, WC and balcony.
Triple room - sleeps 2-3: Austrian twin beds, single sofa bed, private shower, WC and balcony.
Austrian twin beds
Austrian twin beds are very common in Central Europe. They’re simply one large bed frame containing two single mattresses, both with separate duvets and linen sets, that cannot be separated. Separate twin beds are less common and can often be head to head beds, rather than side by side, if they are available.
· continental buffet breakfast · optional upgrade to half board with 3-course set menu evening meals taken in a nearby restaurant
Many Austrian hotels do not serve free tap water with meals.
