In the French Alps' Savoie region, La Plagne was established in the early sixties and now consists of 11 villages: 7 purpose built villages and 4 traditional villages. The aptly named Plagne Centre at the heart of the resort is the main hub of shops, restaurants and après ski. Just underneath lies Plagne 1800, a cluster of chalets spread across a steep hillside. Higher up are Aime-la-Plagne, Plagne-Soleil and Plagne-Villages, all accessible via chairlifts from Plagne Centre. Plagne Bellecote rests over a l...
There are plenty of nursery slopes with access to free beginner lifts and a wide choice of different ski schools for those new to skiing. The slopes around the Belle Plagne area are particularly suitable for beginners. The blue run linking Les Bauches to Montchavin provides a manageable step up in difficulty from the nursery slopes. For those who class themselves as intermediate skiers, La Plagne is paradise. 77% of the runs are graded either blue or red. Particular favourites are the run from La Grand Roch...
It might not rival Val d'sere or Verbier for their wild party scenes, but this is an exceptional resort for unique après ski opportunities. Try snowmobiling at night, ice climbing in Champagny, husky sledding, paragliding, extreme tobogganing and more! One experience not to be missed is the bobsleigh track, used for Olympic training. There are various ways you can choose to go down it, but they are all guaranteed to give you a thrill as you will hurtle down at speeds ranging from 80 km/hr up to a lightening 120...

The Lugano Suite is on the top floor of the most centrally placed apartment block in La Plagne Centre - facing the slopes and one minute to main Rochette tele-cabine. A perfect position for hassle-free skiing with private ski room situated on 3rd floor with individual private warmed locker. The Suite (accessed by lift) is spacious and well-appointed with all facilities including large wide-screen TV, free DVD's, iPad, games and library. All this is complimented by the fantastic services of Laura, our delightful chalet hostess and incredible cook. Having stayed in numerous chalets over the past 25 years I can state that she was the best at providing 'Michelin' quality cuisine of a standard rarely encountered and deserves much praise for her abilities not only in the kitchen but also her knowledge and manner at ensuring that we enjoyed our ski holiday - indeed, nothing was too much trouble. The afternoon cakes was a treat to look forward to and complimented by a welcoming note every day hoping that we had enjoyed our skiing and informing us, in detail, of the evening meal accompanied by non-plonk quality wine of limitless quantity. Opened wine, but not drunk, was NEVER served at later meals and, if required, one could choose from a large wine list of very decent wines at affordable prices. Dinner was three courses followed by a choice of cheese - and hence loosening of the belt. The ingredients were always fresh (a well-filled fruit bowl always at hand), the menu never predictable and more than a sufficient choice of everything one could wish for at any meal. Laura managed to cook and serve while keeping the kitchen and apartment spotless at all times without ever seeming it was a chore or drudgery for her. Impressed? I certainly was and we were very fortunate to have enjoyed her exceptional abilities for the week.

...Pickup at airport and transfer went smoothly as did arrival into the Chalet. Great to see Tina again, running her ship tighter than ever. Absolutely loved the Lugano suite, spacious, modern and with everything you would need. Laura our host was polite and accommodating and she kept the chalet spotless all week. A couple of small gripes. Extractor hood in the kitchen not working which meant that we had to put up with oven and cooker fumes every day. My eyes were pretty sore by the end of the week. I am guessing that both hood and oven need a service as some of the food that came out of the oven was under or over-cooked (against Laura's best endeavours). The hanging lamp over the dining room table was so low that it obscured the faces of the people sitting opposite which was a mild irritation. Also, the four poster bed in the main bedroom made the room feel small and it creaked horribly when you roll over. On the bright side, Caitlin was amazing as she single-handedly looked after 4 boys all week. We are pretty laid back and didn't let these issues ruin our vacation, but it would be worth getting them resolved as other guests may not take such a sympathetic view. All in all a great family vacation and our 7th year in La Plagne.

Thank you to Laura, Maxine and Murray for a fabulous week in la plagne. The chalet location is absolutely perfect for ski school and a selection of lifts... The food was fantastic, awakening to early morning wake-up drinks bought to the bedside, a selection of cold and cooked breakfasts. We would arrive home to fresh cakes after a wonderful day on the piste. Evening meals were exquisite. We would like to thank Laura and Maxine for a fabulous week and making us so welcome.
