· 2 minutes' walk to the Heavenly Gondola
At the base of the Heavenly Mountain resort, and a short walk away from the gondola, is the typically American Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel. The Disneyesque exterior of the property is framed perfectly by white mountains and snowy fir trees, making it one of the most picturesque properties on Southern Lake Tahoe.
Perfect for families, friends and groups, the only all-suite lodging property is moments away from a range of casinos, restaurants, shopping and lake activities, though you don’t have to leave the hotel for a wealth of entertainment. You can splash about in the indoor pool, or relax your muscles in the whirlpool, or, if you’re still not worn out from all the skiing, lift some weights and raise your heart rate in the on-site fitness room.
The layout of the hotel is also impressive, with its enormous courtyard atrium that’s light and airy, with a garden area full of horticultural delights and a fish pond. Breakfast is served here each morning, with a range of hot and cold items including eggs, bacon, pastries, pancakes, fruit, yoghurts and cereals. This is also a venue for the evenings, when the daily happy hour (4.30-6.30pm) offers après skiers free snacks and pretty cheap drinks. Surrounding the atrium are the bedrooms, set over numerous floors, each traditionally styled and neat, with wet bars and living areas.
And in the evenings, why not try out the atmospheric Echo Restaurant, where you can watch a sports match, or savour a delicious, fresh dinner – on some nights you can even build your own pizzas, burgers and pasta dishes.
