Located above the centre of Ellmau, the Schönblick has panoramic views of the Wilder Kaiser mountains. Blending traditional Tirolean style and a 'family-run' atmosphere, Frau Naschberger ensures a friendly welcome for all her guests and her restaurant is renowned locally for its excellent home cooking. The ski bus stops outside, but skiing to and from close to the hotel is a great bonus (in normal conditions) with the piste to the Hartkaiser funicular and the piste to/from the Astberg lifts passing closeby.

Set at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser Mountain range, Ellmau has a small population and so much classic Austrian charm that you’re unlikely to get through the week without donning Lederhosen or a dirndl. The resort has an excellent lift system connecting to the neighbouring villages of Going and Scheffau. It really comes into its own for beginners: children’s lessons take place in ‘Kinderland’ (next to the ski school office on Alte Straße 3) which is kitted out with magic carpets, snow plough area and mini slaloms.
