Overview: hotel description: Hotel Lion Bansko description

With its spacious rooms and excellent spa, you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck at the Hotel Lion Bansko. Getting to the slopes is easy-peasy too – just hop on the free hotel shuttle and you’ll be on the mountain in no time.

Once you’ve slipped off your ski boots in the afternoon, it’s time to après. You’re a 10-minute walk from the centre of the resort, but with a lounge and bar right in the hotel, you don’t have far to go to find your favourite tipple. A session on the slopes certainly works up an appetite too, and when it comes to food, you’re in for a treat here. Meals are buffet-style and there’s heaps of variety, from eggs and bacon at breakfast to platefuls of pizza and pasta for dinner.

As for the décor, there’s a modern, understated feel throughout. There's lots of natural wood and stone in the lounge and dining room, with plenty of comfy armchairs dotted here and there. And upstairs in the bedrooms, the neutral colour scheme, big beds and crisp linen give off calming vibes, just right for getting a good night's sleep.

Sitting at the base of the mighty Todorka peak in the Pirin Mountains, lies Bansko, Bulgaria's newest resort which is quickly becoming one of the country's most popular ski destinations. Given the rustic mountain charm, fantastic skiing on offer and lively après ski, it comes as no surprise that the resort is continuing to draw in and churn out happy skiers. And in case this wasn't enough, you'll pay a fraction of the price of a similar holiday in France or Switzerland. Don’t let the resort’s popularity pu...
Bansko has in recent years been home to the FIS Alpine World Cup, which can go some way in demonstrating the quality of the snow and the condition in which they are maintained. If it's good enough for the pros, it's certainly good enough for us! Beginners are well looked after here, whether this is your first time skiing or you're a couple of ski sessions left from the reds. New skiers, especially the little ones, can make the most of the Pirin or Ulen ski schools, before venturing out onto the gentle blues, ...
A living and breathing town, Bansko is the liveliest of the Bulgarian resorts so you can bank on vibrant après ski here. Le retro will give you a little piece of France. If you want a taste of the Orient go to the Kempinski Hotel’s sushi bar and Teppanyaki grill; but for an authentic taste of traditional Bulgarian grub, head for one of the many ‘Mehanas’ in the village. A Mehana is a Balkan take on a ‘tavern’, easily spotted with their homely feel, lively violinists, and of course fantastic food, all 3 ...

"We preferred our holiday to Flaine but the hotel was fine"

Michael Schofield, Nottingham
4/ out of 5
The hotel was fine. We had full board and the food was alright. It was buffet style, you could help yourself to as much as you wanted and there was enough variety to always find something to eat. There was plenty of it, although it wasn’t always warm. The New Years gala was lovely and they seated people of the same nationality together which worked well. The rooms were nice and they were comfortable. The lounge was OK. The internet access was a bit on and off – when too many people tried to access it in the evenings it stopped working. You also only got internet reception in the bar area. The hotel is well placed near the slopes and the staff are very friendly. We wouldn’t go back to Bulgaria because it’s not as snow sure as Flaine and other European resorts.
