Overview: hotel description: Hotel Les Arolles description

Looking for a good-value pick in Europe’s highest ski resort? This place is bang on the money. Sitting right on a blue run, it’s ski-in, ski-out, so you can get straight out onto the slopes every morning. And there’s lots to do when you’re not out exploring the mountains too – from spending time in the spa to drinks in the bar, all while the little ones play games in the kid’s club.

The hotel’s got a modern look, with high ceilings and funky prints on the furniture. Mountainscapes on the walls and plenty of wood and stone give it that alpine touch, and there are plenty of spots to sit back and swap slope stories with the group.

At mealtimes, there’s lots of choice, and it’s served buffet-style so you can load up your plate as many times as you want. You’ll get unlimited wine, fruit juice and water with dinner, and a weekly Savoyard dinner too – you’re in France after all. You can even upgrade to include lunch and all-inclusive drinks if you want, so every meal’s easy-peasy.

2300m at the top of the Three Valleys ski area, VT is the highest ski resort in Europe and part of the biggest linked ski area on the planet. While it's a place for people who, above all else, love to ski, you'll also find some of the country's best après including the legendary Folie Douce, as well as weird and wonderful activities like the 1300m Tyrolienne zip wire. Olde worlde gallic charm it isn't, but skiers will wake up to find some of the best snow in the Alps on their doorstep, and the views over the...
At the summit of the largest ski area in the world and bordering the Vanoise National Park, this is a spectacular place to ski and board. Beginners are well catered for on nursery slopes by the Rond Point des Pistes, where the magic carpets often don't require a lift pass. Kids will love the Junior Park, while the Musaraigne and Campagnols runs in the beginner's area and the new Deux Combes green are perfect to practice on. With a bit more confidence, take the Pionniers or Plein Sud chairs for some cruisy lon...
The après ski here easily rivals other top resorts in the Alps. If you haven't already had the Folie Douce experience, head just under the Plein Sud lift where the "dancefloor on top of the world" is heaving from 3 pm. Another place to party is Bar 360 at the end of the blue Moraine run, which always has live music and cheaper drinks. Back in town, Rue de Gebroulaz is a hub of lively bars where O'Connells is the local Irish pub. The Frog and Roastbeef is a long-time favourite of Brits. L'Eclipse on Galerie Caro...

"A flawless and functional way to access the 3 valleys"

Jack Galliford
4/ out of 5
Perfect for those that wish to ski hard and for families. We were the former. Food was very reasonable, nicely varied from night to night with lots of choice and excellent for ease and quantity. The wine was very drinkable and unrestricted from self service taps, which was great! It's a family hotel so you get families there (don't be surprised) but it's well organised and for a couple I thought it was fine. It seems that French children were better behaved than their UK counterparts too. The rooms are clean and well maintained; although small they are adequate for sleeping in! Perfect for a good night and an early start. There is not much to do at Val Thorens in the evening and we knew this when we booked, it's not that sort of resort. Quite a few bars so the après ski is reasonable but after supper it's quiet. However, the skiing is fantastic and for this I'd highly recommend the hotel. It has very easy access to the slopes of Val Thorens and so some of the best conditions in the 3 valleys.
