I’ve stayed in the Col Alto many times – it’s a lovely hotel that has everything you need, I can’t praise it enough. Overview: hotel description: Hotel Col Alto (Corvara) description

Hotel Col Alto is one of our favourite hotels in the Dolomites. The location couldn’t be better in central Corvara and just 400 metres from the Boe gondola. It's the best place if you want to head straight out and get onto the brilliant Sellaronda circuit. There’s plenty going on in the village and you can walk to bars, shops and restaurants. It might be hard to tear yourself away from the hotel though. We love its modern alpine style. The Iceberg Lounge Bar is the perfect place to grab a drink and catch up with friends before or after dinner. The food at the hotel is also delicious. Expect traditional South Tyrolean dishes with a modern twist. They go to great lengths to make sure the ingredients used are local so everything tastes fresh and authentic.

When it comes to relaxing, the Col Alto has you covered. The wellness centre is full of things to do and it’s easy to waste a few hours chilling out in the indoor pool. The herbal baths and Finnish sauna are just the ticket after a busy day exploring the Dolomites.

Transfer time: approx. 3 hours from Innsbruck airport.

If any mountain resort in the South Tyrol deserves to be appreciated for its rugged mountain skyline, we reckon it’s this one. Gathered at the foot of Mount Sassongher and the Sella massif, Corvara’s towering church steeple surrounded by little boutiques, numerous restaurants and cosy cafes form an uncluttered alpine community. Also known as Kurfar in German, this is the best known of the six villages in the Alta Badia ski area. So far it’s been slightly overlooked but the quickly accessible skiing and fol...
The Ladinia Ski and Snowboard School should get beginners off to a good start and there’s a large expanse of blues above the village via the Col Alt gondola - stop for the views at Pralongia before a long, breezy run down to San Cassiano. The Edelweiss valley by Colfosco has a quiet collection of blue and red pistes for a step up the confidence ladder. Intermediates have a choice of pistes running between Piz La IIa and Piz Sorega - particularly good if it clouds over as they’re tree-lined, giving you some ...
Up from the Passo Campolongo side you’ll find the Pralongia mountain hut which is a fantastic place to stop, sunbathe and drink in the view. If you fancy another stop-off when you reach the foot of the Pralongia piste, try out Capanna Nera Hutte. Piz la Ila specialise in serving seafood and in the Apline Hut Punta Trieste you can enjoy a glass of vino in the Ladin parlour or out on the terrace. Occasionally, the tourist board run ski safaris where you buy a ticket from one of the participating huts and move ...

"Return guest at the wonderful Col Alto"

D. Brown
5/ out of 5
I’ve stayed in the Col Alto many times – it’s a lovely hotel that has everything you need, I can’t praise it enough. Everything is very warm and cosy and having lifts is handy as you don’t have to take the stairs. It’s nice to go down and use the Jacuzzi and sauna – there’s a spa, wellness room, swimming pool and massage facilities. The ski room is perfectly fine and there’s a ski shuttle service run by the hotel which takes you around the village to both ski lifts. Providing there’s enough snow, you can ski from the Col Alto lift at the top of the village, behind the houses and round to the back of the hotel, where you end up dropping into the ski room. It’s a flat route and not difficult at all. The bedrooms are comfortable with good quality duvets, pillows and mattresses and en-suite bathrooms. If you like Italian food, there’s a good menu to choose from - the meals are excellent, my friend is very fond of the antipasti and the wine list is very good. Breakfasts here are a wonderful experience, with a buffet bar including everything but the kitchen sink and a chef who will cook all sorts of hot breakfasts on demand. All the staff speak very good English. There’s an excellent lounge area where they have live music most nights. The bar is nice with good quality wines, cocktails and nibbles and there’s even another bar alongside the hotel (accessible through the lobby) which has a younger scene.
