Overview: hotel description: Hotel Auberge St Hubert description

NB: while the Supplier rating is 4 Star, the Official rating is 3 Star.

As well as being placed on the main street of Val d’Isère just 150m from the pistes, a stay at the Auberge St Hubert will reveal this is a hotel that has a lot more going for it once guests walk through the door.

Character pours out of every nook and cranny – with the aged wood cladding the reception and bar areas, the champagne bottles, chopped logs, free standing fire pits and alpine trinkets that ornament the communal areas all adding to the vibe.

St Hubert gives you a traditional Savoie region ski break, in food, service and appearance - you can imagine coming here 30 years ago and hearing Serge Gainsbourg croaking out love songs through a smoky bar area. Today the downstairs bar serves après treats of cake and other goodies in the late afternoon, as well as showing sports events on big screens.

The menu comprises of both local and regional specialties like ‘pierrade’, whilst it is also a delight for carnivores with meat featuring heavily.

In France's Rhone Alp region, Val d'Isere (pronounced: val de saire/sare/ser or val d sere) is widely thought of as one of the most brilliant and beautiful ski areas in the world. In keeping with the giddyingly gorgeous surroundings, the resort itself is one of France's prettiest - a huddle alpine hamlets formed from cosy wood and stone chalets. With the original village dating back to the 13th century and a Christmas-card-worthy church steeple at its centre, there’s alpine charm by the bucket load. While dre...
Skiers in Val d'Isere are schussing in the tracks of some of the world's greatest skiers. Olympic medallists Marielle and Christine Goitschel learned to ski here, not to mention triple gold winner Jean-Claude Killy, after whom the wider ski area is named. As an indication of this place's premier status - the resort has hosted championships including the 1992 Olympics, the World Alpine Ski Championships in 2009 and World Cup events every December. If some of the best skiers in history have learned here, begi...
Famed for its après ski, there's no chance of a dull evening in Val. Living up to its name, you'll experience ‘sweet madness' at the original Le Folie Douce, which brings you some of the best après ski in Europe - including dancers, musicians, raining champagne and much more... Once that closes, Dicks T Bar's a local legend, staying open into the early hours each night. Bananas is another firm favourite, much loved for its crafty cocktails and slope-side location. In Val d'Isere's 90-something restaurants, ...

"We loved it"

We had a great time and loved the hotel. The best bit was the food, we’ve stayed in 5* hotels and the dining has reflected that but this was a 3* hotel and the food was absolutely excellent – it really made our holiday. The hotel is small and family run, with three generations working there during our stay. Everyone was friendly and we felt very welcome. I’m sure if we’d had any problems they’d have been very helpful (they were very good when I told them about my gluten-free diet). The restaurant was very busy – as well as the guests, a lot of locals and people staying elsewhere came to eat here (including the Austrian ski team who visited every night during their circuit). They served mainly French cuisine, starting with a soup or typical French salad. On the first night, we had lobster as a main and we also enjoyed salmon and Thai chicken curry. Desserts were on a help yourself basis, always with a cheese board of course. Breakfasts were self-service although there was always a waiter there if you needed anything. They were purely continental with cheeses, cold ham, yoghurts, cereals, breads and jams as well as tea and coffee. We sat and chatted with other guests over breakfast for 2 hours one morning, we felt no pressure whatsoever to leave the table which was really nice. In terms of the facilities, you enter the building down a flight of stairs which take you straight into the ski locker room. Through there, you go into a small bar where they had tea, coffee and juice to welcome you in as well as Sky TV for anyone who wanted that. Upstairs there’s the restaurant as well as a small bar / sitting area by the reception that was mostly used for meetings with ski reps. The hotel rooms were small with little storage, but that seems to be a common thing in France. We had a clean bathroom with a nice, powerful shower. The location is great as it’s on the main road for all the shopping and nightlife, and the actual slope is one block away, so you don’t have to walk far at all. Overall, we were delighted.
