Overview: hotel description: Hotel Cristallo description

The Hotel Cristallo is without doubt one of the best hotels in the Austrian Alps for family ski holidays. It ranks high on convenience with a ski-in ski-out location opposite the ski school and a spacious, high end feel throughout.

The kids will have so much to look forward to. There's a huge range of supervised activities like the supervised children's club and the ‘Jungle World' indoor kids' pool with its slide and baby pool, or the ball pool and soft play area.

The grown ups aren't left out either. There's a large lobby with open fire for a warm welcome, a cosy library for those moments of peace and the stylish, open plan lounge and bar is perfect for the laughs you'll be having. Don't miss the sun terrace overlooking the slopes, and the delightful outdoor après-ski bar.

The spa has an exceptional amount of features including an indoor pool and a heated outdoor pool. There's an adults-only 'Aquapura' spa with two saunas, a steam room, an outdoor hot tub, ice pool and relaxation rooms.

But that's not it - there are six treatment rooms with a full range of beauty and massage treatments on offer, plus four specialist treatment rooms that offer up hay bath, soft pack and double treatments. Then there's the spa lounge and the panoramic fitness room. It's all stunning.

Families: Hotel Cristallo for children

Your three to 12-year-olds olds will love the free 'Falkyland' hotel-run kids' club that runs Sunday to Friday from 10am until 8pm. Lunch at the restaurant is included during childcare hours too, meaning it really is very convenient. A 'Jungle World' themed indoor pool with slide, baby pool and showers is open from 7am until 8pm every day too.

There's even a little family friend spa, called the 'Undersea World'. It features a sauna, steam room and showers for families. Let's not forget the well-equipped playroom complete with ball pool, soft play and arts and crafts materials!

The list goes on - babysitting for under 3s can be arranged directly with the hotel and costs around €15 per hour (please contact us to secure a babysitter). There are supervised activities for the kids, a games room with pool table, pinball and computer games, an early buffet tea for children each evening at 6pm, free cots & linens and free use of things like baby baths, back-carriers, nappy changing mats and bottle warmers. They really do go the whole nine yards to make families happy and comfortable.

The family rooms are ideal for, you guessed it, families - they come with three separate rooms, one of which is a separate alcove that features a bunk bed. Kids will love it!

Meals: Hotel Cristallo food & drink

Full board starts with an extensive breakfast buffet with hot options and healthy alternatives. Both are available until 11am. Then the lunch buffet takes over. There's even a daily afternoon cake buffet. You have to force yourself out on to the slopes here!

When it comes to the evening meal, choose between a speciality buffet or a five-course meal with starter, soup, choice of main, salad buffet, dessert and finally a cheese buffet, all offered from 6pm. There's also a good choice of international wines to choose from.

We update Hotel Cristallo's details often, but facilities do change. e.g. some extras listed by the supplier as "free" or included might only be for the first time you use them, or for one time per party, then charged for further use. If any specific feature is essential to your holiday, make sure you ask us to confirm the details of it before you book your holiday.

This quaint, family favourite resort has bundles of character and is nestled between Obertauern, the Hohe Tauern and the Nockberge mountains in the heart of Austria. The village is absolutely overflowing with traditional Austrian charm – the classic buildings are made of authentic wood and stone and you’ll notice waiters dressed in lederhosen and regular markets selling local delicacies such as apple strudel and the local après ski drink of choice, Jägertee (made with strong rum, hot black tea and various...
Katschberg’s family motto is “introduce your children to winter sports and start a lifelong love” and this is certainly a super place to do so. The resort prides itself on its family friendly nature and focuses a lot of attention on the youngsters. There’s a dedicated children’s area called Katschi’s Kids’ World with child-only lifts and runs so little ones can learn in a peaceful environment. Beginners have a number of gentle blues very near the village - we like piste 2 which is nice and wide and winds ...
Things are relatively quiet and low-key here and après ski is reasonably relaxed. Wherever you are you won't be far from a mountain restaurant – fill those hungry stomachs in one of 14 ski huts - try the spare ribs at Pizzeria Stamperl, Carinthian specialities at the rustic Gamskogelhutte with its cosy fireplace or Salzburgerland dishes at the Schneeflockerl such as delicious Speckknödel (dumplings with pieces of bacon). The most popular après ski destination is Wilderer Alm which you’ll find directly bes...

"Fantastic food, great family hotel"

George Bradley, Rotherham
4/ out of 5
The hotel is big and has an older part to it as well as a newer part: if you can, try and be sure you get a room in the newer part as the rooms in the old section weren’t brilliant. We ended up having some of the family in one part and the rest in the other, I was alright because I was in the new part where the rooms were really nice and modern, but in the older bit, the rooms were quite cold and dated (still clean though). The rest of the hotel – reception, foyer etc is big, spacious and modern. There’s lots of glass so you have lots of nice outlook. There’s even a ski hire shop in the hotel (although Katschberg is such a tiny place that if it wasn’t in the hotel, it would only ever be a few metres away!). The food was fantastic – we had all inclusive and the hotel is in the perfect position to ski down straight into the boot room for the buffet lunch. They had good facilities for kids and there were lots of other families staying there besides ours. They did have childcare but we didn’t use it (there’s a crèche and play area) and the menu was great for children – the kids were loving it. The only drawback for families/beginners: the blue slope outside the hotel is the one everyone uses to get down and they have lessons there as well, so it gets really busy (I actually thought to the point of being too dangerous). Your only other options are red runs, so if you're a novice, the ski runs going back to the hotel aren’t suitable.
