Overview - chalet description - Chalet McKinley (Altitude Residences) description

We are pleased to offer ski families the Chalet McKinley in Les Arcs 2000, a chalet apartment within the Altitude Résidence.

The Altitude Résidence was built in an attractive traditional style with skiers’ complete convenience and comfort in mind. A short buttonlift just 100m from the main entrance gives skiers direct access onto the pistes and wider lift system, and at the end of the day, you can ski back to within just a short 1-minute walk from the Chalet McKinley.

The Altitude Résidence offers our guests their own indoor swimming-pool, shared sauna, ski lockers, skiroom, underground parking and lifts to the chalet apartments, plus the Altitude also has a convenient bar to quench your après-ski thirst!

Our Chalet McKinley apartment is run separately by your own dedicated Chalet Host, and are comfortably fitted and furnished, with open-plan living/dining areas, all with a crackling log fire to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, a balcony, and also a TV. Additionally this season all our chalets will have free Wifi access.

All children receive full child discounts, even when in their own bedroom, not sharing with their parents!

The Nursery rooms are on the ground floor of the Altitude Résidence, whilst our Snow Club and Cocoa Club are based in the Chalet de L’Ours, adjacent to the Altitude. Children in our child care programme will use Chalets McKinley, Chalet Machu Picchu and Chalet Olympus at lunchtime.

Meals - food and drink in Chalet McKinley (Altitude Residences)

With a skiers’ buffet breakfast to start your day, afternoon tea to welcome you ‘home’, and 4- or 5-course evening meals with wine and coffee included to complete the evening, our chalets and Chalet Hotels provide by far the best value accommodation in the Alps!

We set high standards for our cuisine, and train our staff extensively before the season starts, to ensure that guests will enjoy every meal with us.

For six days of the week in both chalets and Chalet Hotels, our staff prepare all your meals for you. The majority of parents feel that young children can inhibit the dinner-party atmosphere at evening meals, especially if they are over-tired, so children under 13 years are served High Tea at around 5.30pm in our chalets and Chalet Hotels alike. They are not then permitted to join adult dinner, as they are generally happier either getting some rest ready for tomorrow’s adventures, or if 6 years old or more, joining our child care staff in Cocoa Club.

On their one day off per week, your host in chalets will prepare a Continental-style breakfast which will be left for you to help yourselves, whilst in Chalet Hotels, a full buffet breakfast will still be served to you as normal. That evening, you and your family then have the chance to eat out in one of the local cafés or restaurants, which your Representative will be happy to help you arrange.

A good breakfast is essential on a ski holiday, so we provide our chalet guests a choice of cereals or porridge, fruit juices, plentiful tea, coffee and bread (and croissants in France), cold meats, cheese and preserves, and boiled eggs. This is normally presented buffetstyle for you to help yourself.

In addition to all the above, our Chalet Hotels and NEW this year in all our chalets, a hot dish, such as scrambled eggs on toast, or home-made pancakes with maple syrup is also offered.

Piste Picnics

Our Chalet Hotel teams can also prepare a packed lunch for you on request, at a small local charge. For those keen to keep their Eurospending to an absolute minimum, this is the ideal way to keep your costs down!

Afternoon Tea

The traditional ‘welcome home’ after a day on the slopes will be laid out for you in your chalet or Chalet Hotel, ready for your return, every day except the team’s one day off each week. A good cup of tea or coffee is the perfect accompaniment to a delicious slice of freshly home-baked cake – different every day and our Chalet Hotels also feature a selection of cakes for you to choose from.

Children’s High Tea

High Tea provides children under 13 with a healthy menu, but tailored more towards children’s tastes than our main adult dinner, and puréed food is also always available for infants on request. Parents are asked to accompany their children under 36 months at High Tea please, whilst children from 3-12 years will be supervised by staff.

Adult Dinner in Chalets

In all our chalets, our four-course dinners for adults (and children 13 and over only) start with canapés and an apéritif, followed by an appetiser, main course and dessert. The meal is accompanied by a choice of wines, unlimited during the meal service, with freshly chilled water also always available, and followed by complimentary coffee or tea with chocolates to round off your evening.

Special Diets

Vegetarian options are always on our ‘Culinary Choice’ menu in our Chalet Hotels, and are available in our chalets if you advise us in advance. Other special diets can generally be catered for at a cost of £35 per person per week. Any dietary requirements must be advised to us at the time of booking in order for us to be fully prepared.

Family Dining Chalets

For those families who prefer to eat together with their younger children, we offer our Family Dining option in any chalet of up to 12 beds, if you book the whole chalet for your own party, subject to chalet suitability. Everyone then eats together in the evening, starting at 6.30-7.00pm. The meals are based on our adult menus, with some flexibility for younger taste buds, although not a complete ‘à la carte’ choice!

The additional charge for changing meals to Family Dining is £39 per child.

We update Chalet McKinley (Altitude Residences)'s details often, but facilities do change. e.g. some extras listed by the supplier as "free" or included might only be for the first time you use them, or for one time per party, then charged for further use. If any specific feature is essential to your holiday, make sure you ask us to confirm the details of it before you book your holiday.

This accommodation only holiday to Chalet McKinley (Altitude Residences) in Les Arcs, France departs Sunday 16th April 2017, for a 7 night stay on a "catered chalet" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. It's not included in the basic price of your holiday and is usually paid locally. For reference, the average charged in winter 15/16 was between 50p and £2 per person, per night.

Les Arcs was established in 1968 and is located in one of the largest ski areas in the Alps. The closest airport is Chambery with a transfer time of around 2 and half hours and there are various transport links from Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble too. Present day Les Arcs consists of 4 purpose built villages. The original resort, Arc 1600, was purpose built for doorstep skiing and is directly linked by a funicular from Bourg St Maurice. Arc 1800 lies to the east as you look up the mountain and is quite the contr...
The ski area has everything from gorgeous tree-lined runs to steep off-piste. For beginners, each of the 3 main Arcs has “ski tranquille” zones and the wide beginner runs leading to the resort have gentle gradients that are perfect for practicing after ski school. There are also magic carpets at 1800 and 2000 - an easy way for beginners to get up the mountain without having to tackle button lifts. A number of runs are accessible via free beginner lifts, including a short lift at the bottom of Arc 1800. The ...
If you’re looking for a party, Arc 1800 is definitely the liveliest village in resort. It has previously been home to the legendary Snowbombing festival and has loads of bars and restaurants to choose between. Amongst its best is the Red hot saloon bar, known locally as the “Red Bar”. If you’re looking for more of a French style après bar, Ambiente has a really cool atmosphere and lots of nice cocktails while Le club 1950 is the place to be if you’re looking to party into the small hours. Arc 1600 is a lit...
