Overview: chalet description: Chalet Matterhorn description

Previous seasons’ guests have been delighted with this attractive chalet in the exclusive ‘Plan du Moulin’ area of Méribel Centre. Situated just above our Chalet L’Ancolie, the Matterhorn has superb views across the valley.

The eight bedrooms open off one central landing, and all have their own balcony and modern en suite shower and wc. The attractive open-plan living/dining-room sets the scene for a convivial chalet atmosphere.
Skiers will delight in the chalet’s own sauna, where tired muscles can be gently eased, before sinking into the hot-tub on the terrace to complete the après-ski relaxation regime.

Méribel Centre and the pistes and ski-lifts are approximately 10 minutes’ walk away, but you may prefer our complimentary minibus service, which will whisk you to and from the lifts, morning and afternoon.

For your comfort, we recommend a maximum occupancy here of 15 adults.

Meals: Chalet Matterhorn food & drink

We set very high standards for our cuisine, and train our staff extensively before the season starts, to ensure that you will thoroughly enjoy every meal on your holiday with us. We also take our Health and Safety responsibilities extremely seriously, so all our chalet and Chalet Hotel staff involved in food preparation are trained to the City & Guilds qualification – Level 2 in Food Safety during the pre-season training course. There is a continental breakfast is every morning and a breakfast hot option, afternoon tea and evening dinners are provided for six days of the week in both chalets and Chalet Hotels.

Breakfast

A good breakfast is essential on a ski holiday, so we provide both a hot option, as well as a continental selection with a choice of cereals or porridge, fruit juices, plentiful tea, coffee and bread (and croissants in France), cold meats, cheese and preserves, which is normally presented buffet-style for you to help yourself. On our staff day off, only the continental breakfast will be provided.

Afternoon Tea

The traditional ‘welcome home’ after a day on the slopes will be laid out for you in your chalet or Chalet Hotel, ready for your return, every day except on the staff day off. A good cup of tea or coffee is the perfect accompaniment to a delicious slice of cake and keeps hungry skiers happy until dinner is ready.

Children's High Tea

In chalets and Chalet Hotels with family guests, High Tea provides children under 11 years with a healthy menu, tailored more towards children’s tastes and puréed food is available for infants on request. High Tea is at 5.30pm, and children do not join the main adult-only dinner.

Dinner in Chalets

In the evenings our hosts will cook you a three-course adult only meal six nights a week. This starts with a glass of prosecco followed by an appetiser, main course and dessert – with unlimited complimentary red, white and rosé wine during service! There is also an option for vegetarians, please warn us in advance.

One of these meals will be a regional meal with the menu depending on which country you are staying in.

On the staff one night off per week just a continental breakfast is provided and it’s a great opportunity for you to experience some local restaurants in your resort. Speak to your resort representative for recommendations and help with reservations.

Vegetarian and Special Diets

Vegetarian options are available in our properties – just advise us at time of bookings so that we can ensure that our staff can prepare. Other special diets can generally be catered for at a cost of £35 per person per week. Any dietary requirements must be advised to us at the time of booking in order for us to be fully prepared. Our Chalet Hosts will discuss your dietary requirements with you upon arrival to the chalet or Chalet Hotel.

Christmas and New Year

All of our chalets and Chalet Hotels will serve a traditional Christmas dinner with a glass of Champagne to start off the evening. This will include roast turkey with all of the trimmings, Christmas pudding, mince pies, crackers and party hats plus a fantastic Alpine atmosphere in which to enjoy the day.

A special festive menu will also be served on New Year’s Eve, alongside the added bonus that many resorts put on fantastic firework displays. A glass of fizz, whilst watching fireworks over the snow-capped peaks of the Alps.. what better way to bring in the New Year!

Our Quality Wines

We are very proud of our wine selection for chalets and Chalet Hotels, which combines crisp and fruity whites with medium to full-bodied reds, for a variety of palates. We select our wines in conjunction with our good friends Nicolas and Véronique – the third generation in the Perret family’s fine wine business based in the Savoie. Nicolas is a qualified wine expert, having trained at the prestigious Burgundy Wine University in Beaune. Each season in October, Nicolas & Véronique bring over a new selection for us to sample (someone has to do it!) and together we choose our wines for the coming season, based on our menus and their pure enjoyment factor. Wine is an incredibly subjective and emotive subject, however, the feedback we have received from our guests over recent seasons endorses our aims of providing wines to enhance your meal and to suit most tastes. We hope you will enjoy them as much as we do!

We update Chalet Matterhorn's details often, but facilities do change. e.g. some extras listed by the supplier as "free" or included might only be for the first time you use them, or for one time per party, then charged for further use. If any specific feature is essential to your holiday, make sure you ask us to confirm the details of it before you book your holiday.

3 Valleys ski area Excellent ski schools Lively après ski

Meribel has a special place in many Brit's hearts – not simply because it’s right in the middle of the biggest ski area on Earth. A resort for long ski days, ski-boot-stomping après and cosy chalets, there’s a great deal to do and ski here, which is why many of us have been coming back for decades.

Meribel's location is tricky to beat, slap bang in the centre of the mammoth Three Valleys ski area. British made, and largely Brit run, it's a destination we flock to year after year for a homely atmosphere in a good looking resort with more than enough pistes for a week (or three). It's made up of a huddle of gorgeous hamlets, built in traditional wood and stone and surrounded by thick woodland. The main area is Meribel Centre (usually known just as Meribel). A traditional alpine village with choc-box chale...
Meribel is one of the best ski resorts to learn in. There are three beginner areas known as 'Ski Facile' (easy ski) plus great green pistes to practise on including Le Foret and Altiport. Both runs are carefully planned out so you can practice at your own pace in quiet surroundings. If you're skiing with children, there are fantastic ski schools and child-orientated areas, including animal sculptures scattered around the trees at the 'Pistes des Animaux' where children can learn about local wildlife as they e...
Whether your day on the hill leaves you wanting to relax with a vin chaud, have a pint and play pool, or party the night away, your time off the slopes can be as varied as the day spent cruising the incredible Trois Vallees. It's said that you haven't experienced après ski here (or anywhere for that matter) until you've sampled toffee vodka in Le Rond Point, which is easily one of the most famous après ski bars in the world - complete with a slide down to the toilets! Meribel's rightly famous for its nightl...

"Great hosts & fellow guests, wine & hot tub not so great"

RC, Essex
4/ out of 5
Great hospitality, the twin girls who were running the chalet couldn’t do more for you. Although we were a larger party, we gelled with the other guests and we were all skiing together by the end of the week. The chalet itself was nice and well situated. It wasn’t too far from the town so you could walk in, and there was also a shuttle service that ran all over Meribel throughout the day. The rooms were fine and we enjoyed the food thanks to excellent cooks, although the wine was terrible and we ended up buying our own every night... The hot tub wasn’t working, which was a shame - this could have been addressed a bit sooner than it was. Our main problem with the package however was the journey to resort. This was the week where there had been a lot of snow and many of the roads had closed. The conditions weren't anyone’s fault but our reps were completely unprepared for the situation and didn’t deal with it very well at all. They needed better training for unusual conditions and could have kept us better informed.

"Poorly managed."

Our stay in the Matterhorn was a disappointment and we won’t be booking with this chalet company again. It was all down to poor management and if they’d made some small, logical changes it would have been a completely different story. It started with our arrival at the airport, when we found ourselves in the middle of all the post-Christmas chaos getting up the hill. We were lucky enough to get to our chalet but two of our party didn’t and the management of the situation wasn’t good at all. When we did arrive, they dropped us off from the coach and we were left waiting outside in the cold for a long time waiting for the shuttle. Couldn’t they have kept us on the coach while we waited? Or arranged the pick up to be on time? Then we got to the chalet, which we’d selected specifically for the fact that there was a Jacuzzi. However the Jacuzzi wasn’t working until Wednesday /Thursday because the hosts hadn’t been given the sufficient training on how to provide day to day maintenance and managed to freeze the pipes when water changed. Instead of immediately calling outside maintenance it was left, thinking it would eventually heat up, but it did not. When eventually the maintenance was called (not management) it was fixed but we were without this main feature for most of the week. Between our party we 4 rooms - a lot of which didn’t have bedside lamps, and none had mirrors other than in the downstairs bathroom for the mezzanine bedrooms meaning that one had to go up and down the stairs to see oneself. There was a big garage under the chalet which would have been a logical place for us to store our skis, boots etc. However we were forbidden to use it and instead had to leave everything (18 sets of skis, boots, poles) in a small, 6x10ft hallway where there wasn’t even enough room to take our boots off. There were no boot warmers or anywhere to dry boots. A few of us kept them outside the sauna in the hope of drying them, but it was not always on and in the basement where we were told not to take them. Another issue that was down to the managers - there was more than enough room in the garage and it would have been more sensible to make use of it rather than take over our living space. The two twin girls who hosted us were excellent, but for a chalet of 20 guests it was understaffed and the girls had far too much to do, leaving them under a lot of pressure (we heard that last year there had been four hosts). We ended up helping them to clean as we didn’t want to live in a messy environment and they couldn’t cope with it all on their own. The food was OK - not the best I’ve had but the girls managed well and the kitchen was considerably well equipped. The wine however was disgusting, to the point that everyone went out and bought their own! The location was reasonably good. The resort itself was lovely and you could walk into the town centre from the chalet which was good. The chalet’s halfway up a hill on a horseshoe shaped road and there were drivers who picked you up and took you to the slopes. However the arrangement with the drivers was bizarre... They insisted that we went up the hill to hail the bus to a fixed pick up point. We ended up sending one of us to hail and then come down with it to outside the chalet to pick up the rest of us. The size and layout of the chalet didn’t lend itself to being sociable. With max occupation levels of 20, it had such little space to accommodate the guests in the living area. There weren’t enough sofa seats in the chalet for everyone, so we had to either stay sitting in the dining room or bring the dining room chairs into the living room. As it was, we ended up staying with such a great bunch of people that we all got on tremendously and everyone ended up skiing together - the comradery was what kept us going despite the problems with the chalet.

With a minibus to take you to the lifts in the morning and a great range of creature comforts to greet you in the evening, the Matterhorn seems to have it all. The resort centre, and famous apres ski venues are just a ten minute stroll away as well, so the party animals amongst you won’t have to walk far either. Remember that this review is being written early 2014, so be careful to check the official description to check facilities like sauna and hot-tub are available on your dates, as chalet details do change, and the description will be updated to remain accurate, where as reviews will not be changed.
