Overview: chalet description: Chalet Madeleine description

Chalets don’t come much more luxurious and quintessential than the Madeleine in Val d’Isere. The traditional Savoyarde-style architecture gives way to an opulent alpine-inspired interior as you step through the wide oak front door. Heated floors throughout keep the chalet cosy and the crackling wood fireplace in the open-plan living and dining area adds just the right amount of decadence.

Furnishings are in keeping with a chalet in Val d’Isere; picture the rustic oak dining table with high-back chairs, a feature chandelier for a touch of class and contrasting rich brown leather sofas for unmatched comfort. A calm and quiet mezzanine study perched above the spacious lounge is a great space for reflection or good conversation. The bedrooms are sanctuaries of night-time relaxation with their broad comfortable beds. Each with a contemporary design, plenty of storage and their own spacious bathroom suite. On the large 1st floor terrace you’ll find the luxury hot tub which sits 6 people comfortably and provides either a full lights-and-bubbles experience or a tranquil soak amidst the scenic mountain views.

Chalet Madeleine offers the additional convenience of a ski and boot room on the ground floor with heated boot and glove dryers

In France's Rhone Alp region, Val d'Isere (pronounced: val de saire/sare/ser or val d sere) is widely thought of as one of the most brilliant and beautiful ski areas in the world. In keeping with the giddyingly gorgeous surroundings, the resort itself is one of France's prettiest - a huddle alpine hamlets formed from cosy wood and stone chalets. With the original village dating back to the 13th century and a Christmas-card-worthy church steeple at its centre, there’s alpine charm by the bucket load. While dre...
Skiers in Val d'Isere are schussing in the tracks of some of the world's greatest skiers. Olympic medallists Marielle and Christine Goitschel learned to ski here, not to mention triple gold winner Jean-Claude Killy, after whom the wider ski area is named. As an indication of this place's premier status - the resort has hosted championships including the 1992 Olympics, the World Alpine Ski Championships in 2009 and World Cup events every December. If some of the best skiers in history have learned here, begi...
Famed for its après ski, there's no chance of a dull evening in Val. Living up to its name, you'll experience ‘sweet madness' at the original Le Folie Douce, which brings you some of the best après ski in Europe - including dancers, musicians, raining champagne and much more... Once that closes, Dicks T Bar's a local legend, staying open into the early hours each night. Bananas is another firm favourite, much loved for its crafty cocktails and slope-side location. In Val d'Isere's 90-something restaurants, ...

"Great service in well appointed chalet 4 stars...."

John Haw
4/ out of 5
Overall great experience. The pros: The food was fabulous, Simon is a trained chef and really goes the extra mile. Rachael was a great hostess too and when I injured myself couldn't have done more to assist me. Chalet and communal areas and ski room are spacious and well appointed. The hot tub! The lovely Sophie The bits that may not be to everyone's taste: Rooms are a bit small, but to be honest we were not in them much! There is no TVs in bedrooms but again didn't bother us. The location is good but it's about 8 mins walk to the town and the slopes are via the bus which is only 2 minutes away. To be fair the bus is so close that it's better than some nearer chalets that involve a longer walk. I would definitely book again, great week.

"Almost five star on a four star budget"

Its called a "Signature 5 star chalet" and it is really nice, with twin rooms which all have modern ensuite but I'm not sure if its quite 5 star - more a very top end 4.5 star? I'm splitting hairs because the rating system is subjective anyway and the chalet's hosts are fantastic (so the service is top notch) and the food is fine dining with several coursed meals that are a cut above regular ski holiday fare. It was so much food but so good I lost all self control. Lucky you can snowboard hard all week to burn it off. The living area is comfy with a big TV and cool mezzanine area where I would sit and read a book. It is close to resort centre with only a few minutes’ walks to the bars too, so all in all I was really impressed. It's definitely worth splashing a bit extra because the prices are more like top end 4 star and staying in this place is on a higher level than that.

Very hot in chalet living room due to some issue with heating so pack a few light t shirts (and shorts).... I'd say this was a nice 4 star, not 5 though. A very strong 8.5 out of 10.

Without wanting to gush, this property exemplifies why Val D’Isere is on the map as one of the world's finest luxury resorts. Impeccably designed and decorated, it has character without being too bold, and style without being in your face. All bedrooms are en suite; the open fire adds life and warmth, while the under floor heats the chalet and boot-tired toes. The town is just a short walk away, while the bus stop is two minutes’ walk meaning, if you can bear to leave the lap of luxury, you can be either in a bar with a drink, or on the piste within 15 minutes of leaving the door. Suffice it to say that securing this chalet often requires being on the ball with booking.
