Chalet Le Lac Blanc is one of the truest ski in/ski out properties I’ve ever seen. It is right next to the DMC gondola and Les Jeux chairlift so we were able to catch first lift most days. The E.S.F. ski school meeting place is right next to the gondola and you have a choice of green runs back to the chalet. T... + more

The Lac Blanc II and its identical sister chalet occupy the same building which is located slap bang in the middle of the slopes right next to the DMC gondola. At the end of the day, ski or snowboard to your door, head up the stairs past the equipment storage and boot warmers, turn right and you're straight into the chalet with its contemporary styled lounge and diner.

Step out if the lounge doors to the large wrap-around balcony which overlooks the resort and slopes for some fresh air and amazing views.

The choice of lifts within 100m of the chalet door includes the two-stage DMC gondola which takes you to 2700m or a series of drag lifts. Having this choice makes the Lac Blanc a good option for complete novices or seasoned pros and everyone in-between.

With a transfer time of around 2 hours, Alpe d’Huez is very accessible from Grenoble airport. Established in 1936, it was the first resort in France to be installed with a fully operational ski lift. The resort lies in the Grandes Rousses Massif domain and it is partnered by the smaller mountain villages of Auris-en-Oisans, Villard Reculas, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany and La Garde, all of which are connected by a free transport system. The slopes are mainly south facing and as a result the area, known as “L’ile ...
Alpe d’Huez has had sun and snow galore since 1936. And with a whopping 52km of greens, this is an excellent place for beginners. The easiest skiing is above the village and Les Bergers and there are plenty of wide open runs underneath the DMC gondola, many being ‘beginners only’ so you can learn without too much traffic. If you’re feeling confident, try some of the blue runs coming down from the main mountain and the signal sector back into Alpe d’Huez. There is a really impressive selection of runs for ...
If you like live music, try the Underground in Vieil Alpe, which combines a pleasant atmosphere with bands playing most nights. Smithys tavern is a proven success in the neighbouring resort of Les Deux Alpes and the Smithy’s in Alpe D’Huez has drinks promotions and healthy portions of Tex-Mex to match. If you can’t bear to miss an important game whilst in France then The Sports Bar is the best spot to watch live sports. L’igloo is the place to go if you want to party late into the night. Alpe d’huez has a...

"Good 1st ski holiday in Le Lac Blanc II"

Phil, Bristol

Really enjoyed our first ski holiday in this chalet. We didn’t really know what to expect of the communal part of the chalet experience but it was generally nice to meet other people. The dining area had a nice long table and although you couldn’t get everyone sat around the sofa areas, there weren’t many times we needed to. We thought the food was great, it wasn’t gourmet but there wasn’t anything we didn’t like and there was always plenty of it. They put the afternoon tea out nice and early around midday, so you could ski back and have breads, jams and cakes. I don’t think the location could have been any better. It was right next to the main lift and we could ski to the door. Our room was good in terms of space, it was a bit awkward having the roof beams running through - especially in the bathroom - but they’re clearly an important part of the chalet so you just have to be careful! In an ideal world I would have preferred to have a double bed rather than two singles pushed together. We had a balcony that was shared with the room next door to us which was good for airing clothes. I suppose some people might not have appreciated the bedroom arrangements but you just have to plan your day so you don’t spend much time in your room.

The snow park is also next to the green run, so it would be a great location for any freestyle practice or you can watch people take on the water jump or boxes from the safety of the balcony! We stayed on 9th April and we could still ski back to the door despite 6 sunny days in a row. Philippa and Ben were excellent hosts and the meals were great, we had duck, salmon, chicken and an array of great starters and puddings.
