The chalet was really good. At the beginning of the week we could ski down to the resort but otherwise had to walk several hundred metres which I find a bit bonkers in ski boots. Overview: chalet description: Chalet L’Ours Blanc description

NB: This is a "family" chalet, so all bookings must include at least one child or teenager.

The L'Ours Blanc is an appealing chalet apartment within the De l'Ours residence, offering families a highly convenient location for both ski access and our childcare services. Access to the slopes is easy with the nearest lift only about 250m from the building's front door.

The interior of the apartment is simply but comfortably furnished with one large open plan living/dining room with satellite TV and a fireplace. Views over Les Arcs 1950 and the valley below can be appreciated from the long balcony leading off here.

All the 8 bedrooms are en suite with hairdryer and the majority also have a balcony. The added bonus for guests is the private sauna, and all age groups will enjoy the free access to the swimming pool in the Altitude residence next door.

Our childcare rooms are within the residence, so it's all very convenient for parents here.Children in our childcare programme and their accompanying staff will use Chalets McKinley, Machu Picchu and Olympus all in the Altitude residence.

Ski Childcare & Children’s Ski Lessons

We have led the childcare concept for UK families on skiing holidays for the last 35 years and our programme is constantly reviewed and refined, with previous guest feedback always the key element in further enhancing the experience.

For parents, Classic Childcare means being able to leave your accommodation after breakfast to head for the first lifts, only needing to return after the last one shuts. We look after your children completely throughout the ski day if you wish.

While the babies and toddlers go to our Nursery, staff take the older ones to our partner ski-school, collect them, give them lunch, run activities to keep them happy and stimulated and then take them back to their chalets for their high tea, giving you our super-convenient ‘Seamless Service’ throughout the day.

Why Choose us?

  • 35 years experience as the UK’s leading family ski specialist
  • The biggest choice of childcare services in skiing
  • Flexible childcare options, from half-days up to our 'Seamless Service' from 9am-6pm
  • Strict ratios of nannies to children in all our Nurseries
  • All nannies properly qualified and English-speaking
  • All childcare staff are subject to the new Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Check (formerly the 'CRB' check) in line with the UK's legal requirements for anyone working regularly and closely with children.
  • All appropriate childcare and catering staff trained to the City & Guilds Level 2 in Food Safety or equivalent
  • Strict signing-in/out procedures for all ages whenever responsibility for children passes between staff or ski instructors and parents

Meals: Chalet L’Ours Blanc food & drink

Winter 2017/18 Cuisine

We set high standards for our cuisine, and train our staff extensively before the season starts, to ensure that guests will enjoy every meal.

Breakfast

In all our properties breakfast is served buffet-style with a selection of cold options including a choice of cereals or porridge, cold meats, cheese and preserves, and bread (and croissants in France) fruit juices, tea and coffee and a cooked breakfast of bacon, sausage, eggs and beans.

On the one staff night off per week, a continental style breakfast is laid out for you to help yourselves in all chalets.

Piste Picnics

Our Chalet Hotel teams can also prepare a packed lunch for you on request, at a small local charge.

Afternoon Tea

Every day, apart from the one staff day off, a home-baked cake and tea and coffee making facilities are laid out for you to help yourself when you return from the slopes.

Chalet Meals

High Tea at 5.30pm is served as a 2 course evening meal for all children under 13 as many parents prefer to enjoy adult-only company over dinner. Parents are asked to accompany their children under 3, whilst 3-12 years old are supervised by our childcare team.

Adult dinner at 7.30pm comprises 3 courses including an appetiser, main dish and dessert, preceded by a prosecco apéritif, accompanied by a choice of red and white wines, and culminating with tea or coffee.

If it's important to you to eat dinner altogether as a family, we offer Family Dining in any chalet when you book the entire chalet for exclusive use. Dinner is then served from 6:30pm with the menu based on our adult dishes with some flexibility for the children's preferences. There is a supplement of £39 per child for Family Dining.

Children’s High Tea

High Tea provides children under 13 with a healthy menu, but tailored more towards children’s tastes than our main adult dinner, and puréed food is also always available for infants on request. Parents are asked to accompany their children under 36 months at High Tea please, whilst children from 3-12 years will be supervised by staff.

Special Diets

Vegetarian options are available in our chalets if you advise us in advance. Other special diets can generally be catered for at a cost of £35 per person per week. Any dietary requirements must be advised to us at the time of booking in order for us to be fully prepared.

Winter 2018/19 Cuisine

Our staff prepare and serve breakfast, afternoon tea and a 3 course evening meal including wine and coffee, on five days a week, representing great value for money in any ski resort and giving you more precious time as a family. The staff nights off give you a chance to sample some of the delicious local restaurants an ensure that you don’t leave The Alps without your fill of Weiner Schnitzel or Fondue! Our baby listening service ensures that you can enjoy your meal out without worry.

We set high standards for our cuisine, and train our staff extensively before the season starts, to ensure that you will enjoy every meal.

Breakfast

In all our properties breakfast is served buffet-style with a selection of cold options including a choice of cereals or porridge, cold meats, cheese and preserves, and bread (an croissants in France) fruit juices, tea and coffee and a cooked breakfast of bacon, sausage, eggs and beans.

On the two staff nights off per week, a continental style breakfast is laid out for you to help yourselves in all chalets.

Piste Picnics

Afternoon Tea

Every day, apart from two one staff days off, a home-baked cake and tea and coffee making facilities are laid out for you to help yourself when you return from the slopes.

Christmas & New Year Celebrations

All our chalets and Chalet Hotels offer traditional fare for Christmas dinner, with roast turkey and all the trimmings, Christmas pudding, mince pies, crackers, party hats and of course a pre-dinner glass of Champagne plus a lively, fun atmosphere for all the family.

This is the one meal that all families share together regardless of children’s ages, so in some properties the dining tables can be quite crowded, but this adds to the festive ambience of all celebrating together!

A special festive menu followed by Champagne is also served on New Year’s Eve, but this is for adults only (and those aged 13+ of course), unless you are staying in a Family Dining chalet.

Staff Day/Night Off

Once a week for 2017/18 and twice a week for 2018/19, you have an opportunity to eat out and enjoy a local Alpine Restaurant on our staff's day(s) off. Don't forget, you can still take advantage of our free Baby-Listening/Child Patrol Service on this evening. For the 2017/18 season.

We update Chalet L’Ours Blanc's details often, but facilities do change. e.g. some extras listed by the supplier as "free" or included might only be for the first time you use them, or for one time per party, then charged for further use. If any specific feature is essential to your holiday, make sure you ask us to confirm the details of it before you book your holiday.

Les Arcs came to be in 1968 after a group of ski instructors and architects dreamt up a resort with all the perks of a village but a mountainside location. It grew into one of the largest, most incredible ski areas in the Alps. The closest airport is Chambery with a transfer time of a couple of hours, plus transport links from Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble. Present-day Les Arcs consists of four main purpose built villages. The original resort, Arc 1600, was created for doorstep skiing and is linked by a funicular ...
As you'd expect from one of the biggest ski areas on the planet, there's everything from gorgeous tree-lined runs to wild, white-knuckle off-piste. For beginners, each of the 3 main Arcs has 'ski tranquille' zone, and the wide beginner runs leading to the resort have gentle gradients perfect for practising. Local instructors are on hand to show you the ropes, with ski schools based in each of the main villages (1800 has the most). There are magic carpet lifts at 1800 and 2000 - an easy way for newbies to get up ...
If you're looking for a party, Arc 1800 is the place to be. With heaps of watering holes like the Red Hot Saloon (or the 'Red Bar' to use local lingo), Benji's and La Folie Douce. If you're looking for more of a French-style après spot, Ambiente Cafe has a really cool atmosphere and lots of nice cocktails (happy hour usually starts at 4) while Le club 1950 your venue if you're looking to party into the wee hours. Arc 1600's a little quieter but for good music and a scenic terrace check out Les 2 Têtes. In te...

"Ideal for what we paid"

Booked this as a last minute holiday. The chalet was very good and I really enjoyed the holiday here, the 2 guys that ran it were great and the whole set up was good. The food was perfect for what we paid for the holiday. It was very central in a good spot, high up with access all over the area. From the chalet it was a little walk to the lifts, more or less 2 minutes to the rope lift which drags you up the hill to Les Arcs 2000. From there you could go left or right or ski down to Les Arcs 1950. Liked the sauna, room was a bit tiny but this wasn’t a huge problem as we only used it to sleep in. Stayed in a twin room which had a balcony and shower but no bath, it was clean though and nice and warm - half of the other rooms were probably bigger than ours. This would be a good place for families, we shared the chalet with a couple who had 2 young kids and another family with older children, it’s not in a loud area and not near any clubs or bars so very quiet at night.

"Really nice inside, could ski out at start of week"

It’s not really a downside but I’m lazy and don’t like walking much and prefer ski in and ski out! Chalet itself is quite nice, this was a big chalet, kind of like a hotel that was split up. It was really nice inside, clean and warm and nothing bad I can think of to mention! The food wasn’t bad at all and we had tea and cakes to snack on when we got back from skiing. Ate out at the Aiguille Rouge one night which I had been to before - really good food there.
