Established in the 1960s as the brainchild of Olympic champion skier Jean Vuarnet, Avoriaz is a purpose build resort with tonnes of character. The wood-clad buildings have a striking appearance that set it apart from other destinations. Even more impressive is the 360° panorama of the Alps. Avoriaz is brilliantly located right in the centre of the Portes du Soleil ski area. Completely ski-in ski-out, a holiday in Avoriaz means you don't have to lug your equipment around and you can maximise time on the slopes...
Avoriaz is one of our favourite resorts to bring the family - thanks to a huge and central children's village, complete with a specialised snowboarding area, children can learn to ski and ride in a fun and safe environment. Avoriaz is one of the only resorts that has a Beginner Pass, letting you find your feet on easy terrain via 14 lifts without the expense of a full lift pass. Beginners-only piste Première Glisse gives you the chance to improve at your own pace, while Proclou and Q'monts are easy blues for cr...
Avoriaz has worked hard on it's apres game in the last few years, with the addition of a well-known apres go to 'La Folie Douce' for winter 2018. It has an array of restaurants, bars and off-slope activities that contribute to a lively après ski scene. Le Tavallion is an English themed pub for a home-from-home atmosphere, Shooters is good for party-lovers while Le Yak tends to be the venue of choice for late-night clubbing. Featured in the Michelin Gourmet plate guide, La Reserve is a place to fine-dine in st...

"Husband and I had a lovely time here"

Mrs Campbell, Wandsworth

My husband and I had a lovely time here; it’s a really nice facility with a great location, really easy to get to as you can ski in and ski out and it’s an easy stroll into the village. We would definitely want to go back there if we were in Avoriaz again. The actual living area was fabulous; it had a big open plan kitchen where we sat down to have dinner and breakfast which had a really nice homely feel to it. There’s a lovely balcony off the main living area where we could sit there and have some après in the sun. We were the last couple to arrive as unfortunately our plane was delayed and we had a bit of an epic journey to get there... so we got the last room available and it was very cold. They had a maintenance guy who looked to see if they could help and they managed to make it a bit better but it wasn’t great. There was nothing wrong with the room apart from this, it was a good size and really convenient. It had an ensuite with a bath and hand held shower thing and was very clean with everything done nicely. I didn’t have any issues with the food, it was absolutely fine, basic but that was all that we wanted from it. In the mornings we had eggs and a nice hot breakfast and they catered really well do my food allergies throughout the week so I wasn’t left hungry! The guys hosting us were brilliant, young but really courteous and good fun. I stayed here with my husband and if you're a couple who are happy to mix and mingle with other people and be sociable it’s a great place to stay. We were lucky because the other people staying there were mostly couples who had come on their own too, which worked really well. If it had been just us and one group had taken all the other rooms it would have been more difficult. On the chalet host’s night off, we all split off for dinner and then met up together for a big night out which was a lot of fun.

"A good family chalet in Avoriaz"

Best thing is the location, one minute to the slopes if that! Generally the chalet was very good and we thought the food was excellent. One downside was that the chalet’s used as a multiple store room for other nearby chalets. There was a lot of downstairs traffic, often at inappropriate times like children’s bedtime. That’s the only negative, bedrooms probably need a bit of TLC but they were very spacious. We would consider going back and would recommend the chalet to other families. However if you stay here with children bear in mind – it was the Rock the Pistes festival the week after we left and they were setting up the stage which was right outside the chalet. If there had been a family staying there the week after they would have been horrified as it would have been very loud.
