The chalet was nice and we couldn’t have asked for a better location, but it’s not all it’s cracked up to be in terms of the food and service. Espace Killy ski area Fantastic après ski High altitude skiing

Tignes is somewhere you can ski longer, higher and further than most other resorts in the Alps. Owing its snow-reliability to the Grande Motte glacier, the local ski area is joined with Val d’Isere’s to form the mammoth Espace Killy - intermediates will have a whale of a time here. Choose between 5 different villages, whether your priority is convenience, cosiness or cheap accommodation. Tignes also has one of the most famous New Year parties in the Alps.

Tignes ski resort (pronounce it 'Teens') is one half of the stunning Espace Killy, one of the biggest linked ski areas in France. Because of its high-altitude terrain and access to the Grande Motte glacier, the resort is open both earlier and later in the season than many others and often the lifts are running for short periods of summer skiing. Predominantly purpose built, the resort itself is divided into 5 villages, each different in its own way but all well linked by lifts and bus services. The main area...
With varied pistes at a high altitude, the ski area has impressive powdered terrain for skiers and boarders alike. Beginners can practice on the nursery slopes at Le Lac and Le Lavachet, where you'll find gentle, quiet runs that are accessible via free beginners' lifts. Le Bollin at Val Claret is another conveniently situated green and Grattalu is a lovely wide blue for those wanting to build confidence. Tignes is incredible if you ski at an intermediate level, with miles of powdery blue and red runs includi...
While it's said that those who appreciate Tignes do so for the serious skiing over the après ski, this doesn't do justice to the fact that Tignes' 60+ bars/pubs and 4 night clubs provide some of the best nightlife in the Alps. All villages have their fair share of places to eat and drink, and with a shuttle bus service running 24 hours, you can enjoy your evening without worrying about the journey back. Jam bar is small but with a great atmosphere and Loop bar pretty much offers it all: with live sport, world c...

"Chalet Francois in Tignes - early March 2014"

Neil Williamson
5/ out of 5
Chalet Francois is the uppermost chalet in the building which does lead to some unusual shaped and set out rooms however the living spaces work really well. The ski in & ski out is pretty much close enough for snowboarders to ski in and out too. Couldn't fault that. The chalet staff, Mitch and Will, were outstanding hosts with some great food delivered, spot on afternoon cakes and tips on the local apres events provided during the week. The weather was excellent with 5 days of excellent visibility and superb snow conditions. The only negatives I about the trip were that we went during a French holiday so the road were very busy leading to us missing our flight home, not much can be done about that, however the staff at the airport did manage to get us on a different flight. One of the staff from a different chalet made a mess of the hot tub & sauna area so it was not available for use on the final day and the walls in the chalet rooms were pretty thin so you could occasionally hear people talking. However I'd recommend this chalet again due to Will & Mitch, the location with regards to the slope and the facilities available in the town.

"PROS: Nice chalet, fab location CONS: service and food not up to scratch"

The chalet was nice and we couldn’t have asked for a better location, but it’s not all it’s cracked up to be in terms of the food and service. The chalet hosts were really lovely, friendly people but for our money’s worth, the food wasn’t up to much (too dry, too cold) and after the first night we ate out most evenings instead (Tignes has some lovely restaurants). They didn’t do the cleaning, for example we were meant to have our towels changed half way through the week but it didn’t happen. I’d stay in the same chalet again for the location as long as the service was up to scratch. The location really is as good as it gets, as the chalet is right on the piste.

"Cheap lux' & doorstep skiing close to the lift"

Fantastically located in the popular area of Val Claret and just by the Tufs lift, under normal conditions you’re able to ski right to your doorstep with relative ease. For the nightlife, you’re less than five minutes’ walk from the village centre and the bus stop, which can take you around Lake Tignes and to the northern side of the resort. Throw into the mix the fact that it has spa and wellness facilities (double check this) to relax your mountain-weary legs, you couldn’t really ask for much more from a chalet - cheap luxury.
