Location: where is Chalet Chamois d'Or

This traditionally styled Savoyarde Chalet is quite a landmark situated at the foot of the infamous Face run on Bellevarde (home of the 2009 World Cup Men's downhill), you can ski from the door to the main lifts, nursery slopes and ski school meeting points so absolutely ideal for families as well as keen skiers. The brave (& foolhardy!), can "face the Face" to ski back whilst the rest of us mere mortals would probably find an alternative route!. The amenities and facilities of the resort centre are just a five minute stroll away. The brand new purpose built Sport & Aquatic Centre is virtually a neighbour, offering pools, leisure and spa facilities so don't forget to pack the swimwear and take advantage of a free session (with an Espace Killy lift pass).

Distance to slopes: Can ski from the door!. Distance to resort centre: 5 minute walk. Ski rental pick up & collection: No last minute panic to get skis back to the hire shop on the last day.

Overview: chalet description: Chalet Chamois d'Or description

The Chamois D'Or is getting on in years and unfortunately the owner still won't commit to refurbishment or redevelopment, never the less it has proved incredibly popular over the last few seasons. Its many regular guests have added to its repuation for great value holidays with a friendly atmosphere, good food and fantastic team of happy and hard working staff.

Despite being home to around 50 guests each week, the Chamois still offers that typical friendly and informal chalet style holiday. Think Savoyarde charm not the Savoy! definitely not smart or luxurious but there is an abundunce of character and a superb atmosphere. The airy dining room has a wall of picture windows offering superb views towards Solaise and the Manchet Valley, dining tables are mixed according to group sizes and you will soon get to meet your fellow guests and swap ski tales with them. There is a small in house bar next to a huge open fireplace (for character only unfortunately since the local Pompiers don't like us using this!) and comfortable settees perfect for a pre dinner aperitif or nightcap or two!! Next door to the bar is a smaller lounge, an ideal spot for children and adults alike to play cards or board games or watch their dvd's on the large tv - Sky Sports is also available. The bedrooms, though dated, are all individual in character and some of the nicest rooms are those with the most quirky features. All are ensuite, mostly twins but with the advantage of family suites and triple rooms providing a range of bedrooms to suit all needs.

If you are looking for a great value holiday to Val d'Isere, an unbeatable convenient location, with plentiful good food and a great team of welcoming staff (and are not expecting 4 or 5 star, chic and stylish accommodation!) then the Chamois crew look forward to welcoming you.

Families: Chalet Chamois d'Or for children

Children in our chalets

We welcome children in any of our chalets at any time throughout the season regardless of whether you are a group taking over the whole chalet or individual bookings into a larger chalet.

  • Our generous special reductions apply throughout the season
  • Selected family rooms with half price for under 12s.
  • The same reductions apply to all your children (not just the first two!).
  • Our child discount applies whether your children share your room or not.
  • Children enjoying discounts are still counted towards group discounts.

(Child discounts do not apply to late availability/reduced price holidays)

For all children under the age of 12 years we offer a generous 10% discount , however in selected chalets and family rooms, children can go at half price. All discounted children enjoy our child friendly early supper which our chalet staff will provide at approximately 6pm, (a parent must be on hand to oversee their child). This will be a two course meal with tasty (& healthy!) dishes such as shepherd’s pie, pasta bakes and casseroles followed by fruit, ice cream, crumbles etc. We encourage parents to chat to our chalet staff prior to their arrival to discuss their children’s meals. If you are taking over a whole chalet and would prefer your children to join the normal adult dinner then there is a supplement of £50 per child per week, please advise us of this at least two weeks prior to your departure. If you are in a shared chalet then we expect children under 12 to have the early supper. The only exception is Christmas dinner and sometimes meals on arrival night if you are arriving late.

We charge £100 for babies under the age of 2. Subject to their availability, we can provide travel cots and high chairs if required, please ensure you bring your own baby sleeping bag or blankets and a harness if required for high chairs. Flight seats are not included and car seats are not provided on our coach transfers. However baby seats are available on private taxi transfers, please ask for prices for private transfers. We do not provide jars or formula but your chalet host will happily keep some fruit/veg to one side and make a puree for your baby. Breakfast and children's supper is available to older babies who can manage normal solid foods.

All our chalets have tv’s and dvd players so please feel free to bring your own selection of dvd’s and also a selection of general board games.

Please bear in mind that our chalets/chalet hotels are not equipped to be child safe, there won't be stair gates or socket covers for example, bunk beds may not have guard rails and not all chalets have microwaves if you need these for sterilising bottles etc. Please make sure you are familiar with the chalet layout and location of bedrooms and bear in mind that entrances maybe shared with other residents. Children's behaviour and their safety remain the sole responsibility of their parents at all times.

Facilities: Chalet Chamois d'Or features

Internet/wifi is available free of charge in all of our chalets, however, in most instances belongs to the chalet owner so its availability is outside of our control. Please bear in mind that in the mountains, signal strength can vary, may not always be that strong or suitable for large amounts of streaming. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that it will be operative or that there will be continuous and uninterrupted connection. In the event of technical or other issues preventing access, no refund or compensation will be paid! Bear in mind that access may not be available throughout the chalet and maybe in communal areas only. We recommend that if accessing the net or downloading is essential during your holiday, you have your own data/roaming package for back up or make use a local internet shop.

Start your day with a hearty breakfast to fuel your day on the slopes, choose from a selection of cereals (not forgetting a bowl of Skiers porridge!), fresh fruit and yoghurts, freshly baked local bread and choice of preserves accompanied by fruit juices, tea and coffee. In addition, apart from chalet staff day off and change over day, and assuming you have the room, enjoy a varied cooked breakfast such as eggs, bacon and beans or pancakes.

Afternoon tea

On your return from the slopes, pop the kettle on and help yourself to a teatime treat with a slice (or two!) of delicious home-made cake or biscuits.

Dinner

Just imagine a casual dinner party with friends, now imagine that minus the stress of shopping, cooking, clearing up, ordering taxis, organising babysitters...... well now you can! Relax, your evening starts around 7.30pm swapping some ski tales and banter over canapes and aperitif followed by a set menu wiith a delicious freshly cooked dinner accompanied by unlimited house wine until coffee is served at the end of your meal.

Children's Supper

We provide a child friendly supper with two courses of home cooked and nutritious food, at around 6pm for all children under 12years. We encourage you to chat to your chalet staff before arrival with regards your childrens meals so they know they are on the right track with their menu! If you have sole use of a chalet and you would prefer your children to eat a normal dinner with you at 8pm there is a £50 upgrade. For those in a shared chalet it is generally expected that under 12s would have the early supper.

We update Chalet Chamois d'Or's details often, but facilities do change. e.g. some extras listed by the supplier as "free" or included might only be for the first time you use them, or for one time per party, then charged for further use. If any specific feature is essential to your holiday, make sure you ask us to confirm the details of it before you book your holiday.

In France's Rhone Alp region, Val d'Isere (pronounced: val de saire/sare/ser or val d sere) is widely thought of as one of the most brilliant and beautiful ski areas in the world. In keeping with the giddyingly gorgeous surroundings, the resort itself is one of France's prettiest - a huddle alpine hamlets formed from cosy wood and stone chalets. With the original village dating back to the 13th century and a Christmas-card-worthy church steeple at its centre, there’s alpine charm by the bucket load. While dre...
Skiers in Val d'Isere are schussing in the tracks of some of the world's greatest skiers. Olympic medallists Marielle and Christine Goitschel learned to ski here, not to mention triple gold winner Jean-Claude Killy, after whom the wider ski area is named. As an indication of this place's premier status - the resort has hosted championships including the 1992 Olympics, the World Alpine Ski Championships in 2009 and World Cup events every December. If some of the best skiers in history have learned here, begi...
Famed for its après ski, there's no chance of a dull evening in Val. Living up to its name, you'll experience ‘sweet madness' at the original Le Folie Douce, which brings you some of the best après ski in Europe - including dancers, musicians, raining champagne and much more... Once that closes, Dicks T Bar's a local legend, staying open into the early hours each night. Bananas is another firm favourite, much loved for its crafty cocktails and slope-side location. In Val d'Isere's 90-something restaurants, ...
