The chalet felt a bit too personal for us. Unfortunately our chalet host was ill for the week we were there, but he did ok. The food was average, but as I say, our chalet host was ill that week, so I think it would have been better for the group staying after us. The chalet was a bit of a walk, I’d say about... + more

2300m at the top of the Three Valleys ski area, VT is the highest ski resort in Europe and part of the biggest linked ski area on the planet. While it's a place for people who, above all else, love to ski, you'll also find some of the country's best après including the legendary Folie Douce, as well as weird and wonderful activities like the 1300m Tyrolienne zip wire. Olde worlde gallic charm it isn't, but skiers will wake up to find some of the best snow in the Alps on their doorstep, and the views over the...
At the summit of the largest ski area in the world and bordering the Vanoise National Park, this is a spectacular place to ski and board. Beginners are well catered for on nursery slopes by the Rond Point des Pistes, where the magic carpets often don't require a lift pass. Kids will love the Junior Park, while the Musaraigne and Campagnols runs in the beginner's area and the new Deux Combes green are perfect to practice on. With a bit more confidence, take the Pionniers or Plein Sud chairs for some cruisy lon...
The après ski here easily rivals other top resorts in the Alps. If you haven't already had the Folie Douce experience, head just under the Plein Sud lift where the "dancefloor on top of the world" is heaving from 3 pm. Another place to party is Bar 360 at the end of the blue Moraine run, which always has live music and cheaper drinks. Back in town, Rue de Gebroulaz is a hub of lively bars where O'Connells is the local Irish pub. The Frog and Roastbeef is a long-time favourite of Brits. L'Eclipse on Galerie Caro...

"Good chalet"

The place itself was really good – there was a big living area for us all to chill out in and the chalet was a nice size to have to ourselves as a group. It might be a bit weird for a chalet share though as it’s very close quarters and you’re all in amongst each other. The chalet maid Kitty was really good and the food was alright. It wasn’t her fault but the whole thing was a bit of a shambles as the chalet people had to go all over the place to find the stuff they needed to cook - we felt sorry for them because the management had stitched them up a bit. We also found ourselves running round trying to find a corkscrew as there seemed to be only one corkscrew between 3 chalets (ended up having to youtube how to open a bottle of wine without a corkscrew – a screw seemed to do the trick!). The bedrooms were fine, the smaller rooms were good as they had bigger wardrobes whereas our room which was an en-suite just had a cupboard. The little pool area was good, there were kids there around 5-6pm but when we went down at 7ish before dinner we had it to ourselves. The sauna was nice but small, only fitting about 4 people. It’s pretty much ski in but not ski out, there is a road you could ski down but if you’ve got your own skis you wouldn’t want to as you’d ruin them! It’s quite a hard one to get back to the chalet as there are buildings on either side of it so even on a powder day it’s really icy. There were 2 bars right next to the chalet in some hotels but the main area is a bit of a trek. It took us about 15 minutes and was downhill so everyone was always sliding about, and then you have to get back up, so it would be tricky for older people or young children.

The food was average, but as I say, our chalet host was ill that week, so I think it would have been better for the group staying after us. The chalet was a bit of a walk, I’d say about 300-400m, to the slopes. If the snow was good, I reckon you could ski to within 50m… At the beginning of the week we could ski close to the chalet, but the snow wasn’t very good by the end of the week. The nearest shop was within 30 or 40m and there was a bar downstairs. The main part of the town was a fair walk away. The bedroom was small; you could just about walk around the beds. The bathrooms were really small.
