What does 'Chalet Catering' mean? A catered chalet package traditionally includes your room, plus breakfasts (usually hot and cold options), afternoon teas (e.g. cakes, cookies, pastries, etc) and suppers (3 courses, sometimes more depending on how luxurious your stay, normally with wine included). In some chalets, your host can also arrange packed lunches too (often for an extra cost).

Hot food is served on 5 or 6 days of the week, with 1 or 2 days being the chalet hosts day off. How many and which days the hosts are off can differ from chalet to chalet. On these days, you'll usually find a help-yourself breakfast provided, then be left to your own devices for dinner, whether that means going out for a meal or ordering a takeaway.

The type of food varies a lot depending on the chalet your staying in. In the most luxurious ski chalets, your chef will contact you to tailor a menu entirely around your tastes and preferences – whether that's sourcing your favourite vintages of vino to serve with a banquet supper or cooking your chosen comfort foods to serve in front of the telly. Other chalets might offer a simple but tasty choice of meat and veggie dishes, served around the dining table with the house wine. Chalet dining is famously sociable. In small chalets, all guests dine together around one table, while in larger properties and chalet hotels (basically hotel accommodation with chalet board basis) you'll find bigger dining rooms with multiple sittings. In some family chalets, there are early sittings for children, with supper for grown-ups served later on.

Having almost all meals included in the same place keeps things simple and sociable - it also adds up to cost less than eating out in resort would, which makes this one of the best value ways to ski. If you want a package with meals but prefer a hotel base, have a look at our half board, full board and all-inclusive deals. For options with less meals included, consider a B&B, room-only or self catered package. Whatever you end up with in terms of board basis, a package with travel and accommodation is the easiest and best value way to secure a trip to the slopes.
