1 – Dreamy resort names<\/span><\/h3>\n

We\u2019re taken to Nirvana just hearing of Heavenly <\/span><\/a>and Spirit Mountain<\/em>, while Solitude<\/em> and Hidden Valley<\/em> conjure images of blissful sanctuaries\u2026 Then there\u2019s the warm and fuzzy feeling brought on by Moonlight Basin<\/em>, Sundance<\/em> and Sunrise Park<\/em>. As for the likes of Buttermilk<\/em> and Sugarloaf<\/em>? Surely good enough to eat.<\/span><\/p>\n

2 – \u2026and slogans<\/span><\/h3>\n

Across the pond there are some seriously inspirational taglines to put the wind in your sails. Get a load of Park City<\/a>\u2019s<\/span> philosophical Time is Life <\/em>and Vail’s<\/span><\/a> celestial Like Nothing on Earth.\u00a0 <\/em> We love Beaver Creek\u2019s honest Not Exactly Roughing it, <\/em>but best of all (and don\u2019t they know it) Breckenridge<\/a>\u2019s<\/span>: The Perfect Mountain. The Perfect Town.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

3 – So much sunshine…<\/span><\/h3>\n

If you yearn for bluebird days and goggle tans, Colorado and the California side of Lake Tahoe<\/a><\/span> should turn the odds in your favour. Colorado averages 300 sunny days a year and California, well, people wax lyrical about the sun there. Nothing beats the views over a glittering Lake Tahoe. Just ask this guy:<\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s face it, one thing matters more than anything else: the white stuff. Good news, then, because there\u2019s absolutely tonnes of it here! The quality isn\u2019t too shabby either – Colorado\u2019s legendary \u2018champagne powder\u2019 delivers some of the best skiing in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Did you know that\u00a0Winter Park<\/a><\/span> has Alice in Wonderland themed runs? If the beginner-friendly March Hare<\/em> and Mad Tea Party<\/em> runs don\u2019t have you grinning, the intermediate White Rabbit<\/em>, Tweedle Dum<\/em> and Tweedle Dee<\/em> definitely will. There\u2019s even a lift called Looking Glass<\/em>. Jumping for joy yet?<\/span><\/p>\n

6 – Genuine Cowboy Towns<\/span><\/h3>\n

If skiing\u2019s your passion and John Wayne\u2019s your hero, look no further than Jackson Hole<\/a><\/span>, Wyoming. Once a cowboy ranch, its heritage\u2019s still clearly visible. Hang your Stetson on the door of your log cabin, and head out for a dosey-doe in the legendary Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.<\/span><\/p>\n

7 – Awesome parks<\/span><\/h3>\n

There\u2019s a reason the USA won the most freestyle skiing & snowboarding medals at the winter Olympics. These are the parks baby snowparks want to\u00a0be when they grow up.\u00a0In the words of Olympian & four time British halfpipe champ, Dom Harrington: \u201cBreckenridge<\/a><\/span> definitely has one of the best snow parks in the world\u201d. We beg not to differ.<\/span><\/p>\n

8 – Glorious groomers<\/span><\/h3>\n

These resorts are mighty proud of their corduroy pistes – none more than\u00a0Vail<\/a><\/span>, where tending to 1200 acres every night lets them claim the best grooming in the world. Meanwhile, the<\/span> A-List clientele of Aspen<\/span> <\/a>are often preoccupied grooming themselves (or their Shih Tzu\u2019s at Barking Beauties Dog Spa\u2026), so if their special \u201cgrooming report\u201d gives the go-ahead, the piste\u2019s all yours.<\/span><\/p>\n

Though flawlessly manicured pistes are second to none, sometimes there\u2019s nothing better than taking to the wild. The rugged American landscape\u2019s one of the best for backcountry and the safest too – it\u2019s smattered with lift-serviced zones, which include manned gates and patrols.\u00a0 Jackson Hole<\/a><\/span> even puts on a safety clinic, for maximum piste-of-mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

The best things in life are free \u2013 or sugary sweet.
