Hotel fine, food and staff not so good

Reviewed 23 May 2016

The hotel itself is very clean and kept in good order. The location is perfect for getting around Soldeu. However the customer service and food were below average in terms of the courteousness and helpfulness of staff, and the quality of food. I wouldn’t recommend booking full board if you stay here – we were treated like second class customers to the non-guests who’d come in and booked a table.

Fantastic and well located Soldeu hotel

Reviewed 12 May 2016

This is a fantastic hotel in a nice location, right in the village and about a three or five minute walk to the slopes. For me the breakfasts weren’t particularly great. I’d read some reviews saying they did English breakfasts and others mentioning continental. Unfortunately, they didn’t to English breakfasts which I would have definitely preferred, I like a good breakfast and especially on a ski holiday! Dinners were great though, not a big buffet like you get in big hotels but a set menu with things like chicken and chips, curry etc. There were always variations and if you didn’t like the first choice they’d give you an alternative. Our bedroom was small, but we went for the cheapest 3 bed room they could get and we didn’t spend much time in there anyway.

Best ski holiday I've had

Reviewed 20 Apr 2016

I have nothing negative to say about the Bruxelles, it’s a very good hotel.
The hotel is close to the lifts (about two minutes walk) and there’s a good bar opposite. I shared a twin with my brother and the room was small but clean and perfectly adequate, let’s face it, on a skiing holiday you’re either skiing, eating or in a bar so it’s not a huge issue if the bedroom isn’t luxury! I got the impression that all the rooms were quite small so the hotel might not be perfect for young families who want to stay in a room together, but other than this I would recommend it for all kinds of people.
The food was very basic but good, we had chicken and chips, burgers, fish and vegetables and steak (one of the best steaks I’ve ever had). The staff were great and if anyone didn’t like what was on offer, they’d offer them something from the day before. The restaurant window overlooks the last slope down to the village which was nice. We had never done half board before as we usually like to go out and explore the restaurants in resort, but it was actually really nice to eat in the same place every night as you really get to know the guests and staff more.
Even though I saw the trip as a budget ski holiday, because of the people we met and spent time with, this was probably the best ski holiday I’ve had. The staff were all very friendly and at the week you felt as if you knew them all. It was my birthday while we were away and everyone took me out and made a fuss of me which was really nice - I’m still in touch with some of the people we stayed with now!

Wake up to views of the mountains

Reviewed 4 Apr 2014

The hotel is excellent; we stayed two floors up and woke up to views of the mountains every day which was amazing. We had a twin room which was just what we needed, clean with a nice shower.
The food was really good, we ate a continental breakfast every morning and in the evening they did meals like, pasta, steak and chicken. We only ate out one night which shows you how good the food was.
The staff were really nice and knew everybody as it was a small place with only about 20 rooms. Every day when I came back they had a beer waiting for me as they knew it was what I liked, which was a really nice touch.
Because it’s quite a small hotel it doesn’t have things like its own boot room, so we had to hire lockers up at the ski lift. It did have a bar and restaurant and also wifi, but that’s about all.
It was central with the nearest pub right across the road, the ski lockers 2 minutes away and the main gondola about a 2 or 3 minute walk. Because we had good snow, we could slide back really near to the hotel and it was almost half a minute to a minute’s walk although you’d probably have to be a more advanced snowboarder to do it.
In terms of who the hotel best for, we met up with a couple of other families and a couple of older couples. It’s a quiet hotel for relaxing ski holidays where you go out to ski, come back to rest up and then go out the next day for more skiing. It’s not a lively hotel and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to groups of lads.
