The biggest vertical in Eastern North America, tantalisingly close to the magic 1000m mark for those in metric. Excellent winter sports facilities nearby from the Lake Placid Olympics of 1932 and 1980 including the world's biggest skating arena. A gondola lift, Cloudsplitter, was added for the 1999 - 2000 season and makes the summit in 7.5 minutes. The areas was a venue for the Goodwill Games in 2000.
