Established in 1890 the Austrian ski resort Solden lies at 3250 metres altitude in the Tirol / Tyrol region of the Austrian Alps / Alpes. With the highest lifts and ski slopes above 2500m Solden ski area is snow sure. Over 158 snow cannons ensure artificial Solden snow making covers 90.2km of ski trails, which equates to around 60 of the ski slopes. The nearest airport transfer to Solden (Austria) is Innsbruck at a distance of 85km or approximately 75 minutes driving time. Solden ski season runs from October to May.

One of Austria's largest, liveliest and most popular ski resorts. It formerly offered summer skiing on its twin glaciers (one or the other was always open ) and whilst that has now ended it still has a long winter with ski-season opening festivals and the first northern hemisphere World Cup races each October and November. Snow is guaranteed thanks to the glacier back up.

It's hard to fault the off-slope sporting and leisure activities available in the area, with the resort claiming that more than 50 indoor sports and facilities are on offer. Although there is not space to list all of these, they include an indoor adventure pool and wellness complex, indoor tennis, badminton and squash courts, football, basketball, handball and volleyball courts and sauna and fitness studio. There is also a four lane international- standard bowling alley (with two other bowling centres in the area), indoor shooting range with 10 spaces, and 'Cyber world' computer games centre with ski simulator.
Venturing back outside there's the toboggan run, parascending and some 30km (18 miles) of marked winter hiking trails. The ice rink offers curling as well as skating.

The direction which the various Solden ski slopes face can make or break your skiing or snowboarding holiday. If you want to guarantee good snow and ski conditions, you should choose a resort with ski slopes which face the right way for the time of year you're travelling.
- In the coldest winter months of January and February you need a ski resort with some sunny south facing ski slopes, so your days on the snow doesn't feel like a polar expedition. Conversely, in the warmest spring skiing months of March and especially April, a ski resort with some cool and shady north facing slopes will ensure you're not skiing on slush, but benefitting from best late season snow.
