One of the best places in Japan to shop outside of Tokyo's artificial snow dome/shopping and leisure complex! In Nozawa the emphasis is more on traditional products of all kinds .
The main local craft is wickerwork and there are plenty of shops and stalls in which to view the vast selection of this type of goods. The hato-guruma pigeon carts - smaller wicker models of pigeons with wheels on, are the best loved for reasons generally lost on a Western visitor!
Nozawa has a bustling market with shops spilling out on to the streets. The other local product for which the village is famous is Novawana Pickles, which may also be purchased in many places.
Nozawa Onsen value for money gets 3 stars out of 5 overall
