A local forester, Emile Hodoul, dreamed up les Orres in 1935, but the first lift was not installed until 1966. The resort has a sunny, southerly location, skiing up to snow-sure altitudes (despite latitude) with a good variety of more challenging terrain.

Easy itineraries are specifically marked for snow-shoeing and a map is available from the tourist office. Guided snowshoe tours are available, including night hikes ending with a raclette in a mountain restaurant. Thyere is also an ice rink, multi media room and an auditorium.
Quad bike riding is available through the Mazelière forest paths from April.
The tourist office offers a whole range of board games to borrow (a deposit is required) including Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly, Pictionary, chess, Uno… There's also a village library.
The " Cyber Espace" internet café is open everyday from 4pm to midnight (and longer if booked in advance) and in the evening. Here, you can surf the internet, read and send e-mails and photos. You can even play games on line
Ice climbing is also available and there's a jungle adventure park at the base of the slopes. Snowmobiling is available early in the morning before the lifts open and in the evening after they close. Tobogganing and paragliding are further possibilities.
The ski schools both offer lectures about snow, avalanche and security.
