Established in 1921 the French ski resort Font Romeu lies at 2200 metres altitude in the Languedoc - Roussillon region of the French Pyrenees. With the highest lifts and ski slopes below 2500m Font Romeu ski area is not snow sure. Over 500 snow cannons ensure artificial Font Romeu snow making covers 21km of ski trails, which equates to around 45 of the ski slopes. The nearest airport transfer to Font Romeu (France) is Toulouse at a distance of 200km or approximately 180 minutes driving time. Font Romeu ski season runs from December to April.

A lively and popular border resort attracting weekend crowds from Spain as well as France. It has the biggest snow making operation in the Pyrenées and the second biggest bed base. An historic town, the lifts are 4km away. Font Romeu receives 3000 hours of sunshine yearly - more than the Rockies. There has been skiing here since 1921, most runs are short and flat. More challenging is "Competition" on the northern face. It's a perfect base for beginners and families

Font Romeu has a wide range of non skiing activities. Winter hikes, snowshoeing, ski hikes, dog sledding with guides are all available. There is an indoor golf practice arena as well as indoor and outdoor tennis and a squash court. Ice skating lessons are available at the Olympic sized skating rink. There's a 25m indoor swimming pool.
Other facilities include mini-golf, mini-tennis, ping pong, billiards and volleyball. The village has a casino, a cinema, disco, games rooms and a library.
Worth a visit is the Four Solaire d'Odeillo - the world's largest solar furnace - belonging to the National Centre for Scientific Research and built in 1969. The main work carried out here is research into high temperatures and the development of new energy processes. The furnace is a vast 40m high curving screen of tiny mirrors which pick up the reflection of the sun's rays from 63 large mirrors set up on the adjacent hillside and then re-reflect it into a single spot where the temperature can reach over 3000 degrees C.
