Established in 1908 the Italian ski resort Bardonecchia lies at 1300 metres altitude in the Piedmont / Piemonte region of the Italian Alps / Alpes. Situated at the Italian entrance to the Frejus tunnel, this was one of the early popular Italian destinations (visitors included the last Italian king, Umberto). It is now enjoying a renaissance and hosted snowboarding events at the 2006 Winter Olympics. The rail link is also a major attraction for environmentally-conscious skiers. There are two bus-linked main ski areas - below Mt Jafferau (2807m) and a second area accessed from outside the town.

The city of Turin 90km/56miles has plenty to see and do with many museums and galleries. The Egyptian Museum has been the point of reference for more than 500 years for Egyptology enthusiasts. Created on the orders of King Carlo Felice, the Egyptian Museum has enormous statues, sarcophaguses, fabrics, furnishings, art ojects and jewellery from the various Egyptian dynasties.
The Sabauda Gallery houses pinctorial works of the Piedmontese, Dutch and Flemish schools, as well as some valuable works of the great Tuscans primarily from the 15th and 16th centuries.
