Established in 1936 the Italian ski resort Abetone lies at 1900 metres altitude in the Toscana / Tuscany region of the Italian Apennines / Appennines. Abetone has typical restaurants, a cinema, sports centre, sauna and a skating-rink. There are several discotheques and paragliding is possible high above the slopes. The town has put together several very pretty nature trails (detailed maps and descriptions) for snow shoeing, and there are 15 km of cross country trails as well. Going slightly further afield, there is also Cutigliano, a mediaeval village with a beautiful town hall.
