The chalet was good. Our chef produced a good mix of meals, before you go you know it’s going to be a set menu and you can’t please everyone all the time, but overall it was fine. It was nice; we liked it. It’s a big chalet – I was a bit apprehensive as I haven’t stayed in such a big chalet before and I wasn’t sure if it would suit my daughter, but it was fine. The chalet was adequate. The staff tried hard and there was a good group of people staying there, that’s what really made the holiday. The chalet itself was a bit down in the heel. In the French Alps' Savoie region, La Plagne was established in the early sixties and now consists of 11 villages: 7 purpose built villages and 4 traditional villages. The aptly named Plagne Centre at the heart of the resort is the main hub of shops, restaurants and après ski. Just underneath lies Plagne 1800, a cluster of chalets spread across a steep hillside. Higher up are Aime-la-Plagne, Plagne-Soleil and Plagne-Villages, all accessible via chairlifts from Plagne Centre. Plagne Bellecote rests over a l...
There are plenty of nursery slopes with access to free beginner lifts and a wide choice of different ski schools for those new to skiing. The slopes around the Belle Plagne area are particularly suitable for beginners. The blue run linking Les Bauches to Montchavin provides a manageable step up in difficulty from the nursery slopes. For those who class themselves as intermediate skiers, La Plagne is paradise. 77% of the runs are graded either blue or red. Particular favourites are the run from La Grand Roch...
It might not rival Val d'sere or Verbier for their wild party scenes, but this is an exceptional resort for unique après ski opportunities. Try snowmobiling at night, ice climbing in Champagny, husky sledding, paragliding, extreme tobogganing and more! One experience not to be missed is the bobsleigh track, used for Olympic training. There are various ways you can choose to go down it, but they are all guaranteed to give you a thrill as you will hurtle down at speeds ranging from 80 km/hr up to a lightening 120...

"First package ski holiday"

Alan, Kent
4/ out of 5
The chalet was good. Our chef produced a good mix of meals, before you go you know it’s going to be a set menu and you can’t please everyone all the time, but overall it was fine. We could have done with a bit more space in our bedroom and I did query at the time the fact that there were no locks on the doors - it would have been better to know this kind of thing upfront before we got there. As it was I didn’t bring anything particularly valuable, but if I had it would have been good to have a safe like you get in some hotels. Our bedroom was clean, tidy and perfectly comfortable apart from that. It was easy to get around from where we were staying, you couldn’t have been much closer to the ski area without being ski in, ski out and we had good snow conditions so didn’t end up needing to use the bus. This was the first time we’d done a package deal so it was interesting to see how it all panned out. There was an issue with a big rock falling and causing traffic which affected our transfer but if you take that out of the equation, the transfer part of the holiday is something to get used to as it can take a while depending on the resort you go to. Apart from that there was nothing wrong with the experience.

"Great location, great food"

This chalet is in a great location, with a ski lift just a short walk down a track from the front door. Our chalet staff were really good and the food was fantastic, they catered for a lactose free party member really well. The chalet itself is basic and could benefit from furniture (our room had no clothes storage) and locking bedroom doors. The place was clean and well maintained and there was a boot room/ski locker. It is close to the free shuttle bus stop. The resort rep was really helpful and arranged everything we needed including the midweek fondue. There are a couple of good bars and a supermarket nearby to the chalet. Overall we had a very good experience and highly recommend this holiday.

"Big chalet but nice"

It was nice; we liked it. It’s a big chalet – I was a bit apprehensive as I haven’t stayed in such a big chalet before and I wasn’t sure if it would suit my daughter, but it was fine. We got along well with the other guests, everyone was really nice. Unfortunately my daughter hurt her knee while we were there, so she only got to ski 3 of the days. The chalet staff were fine, I couldn’t fault them. The food was fine too (the only complaint was about the cheesecake! Ugh the cheesecake!). There are closer places in La Plagne to the lifts, but it wasn’t too far to get access to the slopes/ski hire/lifts. You could just walk to the piste. We walked around the town a bit, there are a few places nearby for a drink like La Mine bar, but I prefer to stay in and relax at the chalet, especially as I was on a family ski holiday after all.

"My first (and possibly best) chalet experience!"

I didn’t know what to expect having never stayed in a catered chalet before - but I was thrilled by the experience. I went with my family and loved the homely feel of the living area and all the alpine décor – and the heating and beautiful fire meant I was always cosy! Our room was nice and what you would expect for the price – we didn’t feel at all let down. It’s in Plagne 1800, and there’s a hire shop really close and a bar up the road, so it’s got enough in the area and is also nice and quiet – and you can get to the centre of La Plagne by bus so that’s also good. You only had to walk up the road and down a small slope (which we skied) to get to the lifts – which is great as my brother and I are lazy when it comes to carrying skis! The staff were lovely and very helpful – Charlie’s cakes and baked goodies were a delicious treat when you got off the slopes! The food was delicious and always the right portion – especially enjoyed the duck and dauphinoise potatoes. And the wine was flowing and you could get yourself to drink from the fridge. It was my birthday when we stayed so the staff made me a cake and brought it out with desert (double pudding!) while everyone sang me happy birthday. I was then taken to the Mine Bar which was a really great atmosphere, and I was sung happy birthday again by the whole bar and the live band. The only thing I could suggest is that they shouldn’t charge guests for the wifi code (we bought it and split the cost between us and some other families), and that the signal could reach further than the communal area. There was a range of families, couples, older groups, and single skiers in the chalet with us, and we all loved eating together on the long tables. It was a great chalet in which anyone could feel at home in the Alps.

"A jolly good ski holiday, but it was the resort not the chalet that was the highlight"

The chalet was adequate. The staff tried hard and there was a good group of people staying there, that’s what really made the holiday. The chalet itself was a bit down in the heel. The communal area needed updating – it was a ‘damp teaspoons in the sugar’ kind of place. You could help yourself to beer out of the fridge but every time we did a chicken fell out of the deep freezer. The bedrooms were tired as well. The food was adequate. He youngsters cooking didn’t always know what they were doing – sometimes we had silly helpings – for example half a pound of pâté on your plate is just wasteful to be honest! That said, the holiday really wasn’t expensive. I would have been complaining if it was a luxury hotel in Zermatt, or if I had gone at half term and paid over £1000, but the holiday came out well in terms of value for money. Overall we had great fun. There were a couple of nice pubs down the road from our chalet. It’s a good place for a lad’s holiday. My wife would have hated it.
